I'm having an absolute fit and she won't sell it. She filled it with a sea of Cortez pearl.

The octopus is truly a beauty. By the way, how large is the octopus and is Sheri able to make them into rings? I love the idea of wearing that little fella on the fingers...

Silver...very light underside oxidation...but I'm using one of these Tahitian drops. I couldn't get the lighting correct, so these look much darker in the photo than they actually are.

The First two are champagne gold. The next one is not gold but similar to what gold would look like.

Hopefully this is a better photo of the pearls I'm using in Ringo...I sent two, allowing Sheri to select which one looks best!

Pearls in photo #1: far left; bronzy rainbow middle bottom (photo is upside down, ugh)

Pearls in photo #2: top; middle left

Ennui, I hope you still love your little guy! I hate to see you banging head on wall. These enameled ones are still in the experimental stage, not yet available for public consumption.

I do still love mine, but I also love the enamel versions. I may have to buy a second octo baby. It's like a buying a car, and then the new models are announced.

I wore mine yesterday to an arts festival, and the lady at the pearl booth commented on it. I hope they don't copy it!

Each octopus gets more darling ... sigh ... I'd have to have a silver, an enamel and a gold at some point :)

Nacrelover...I love your new pendant. Thanks for sharing pictures of all the different options....fun to see the enamel versions too. Pirard, I can't wait to see your new pendant when it is finished.

My son's school is having an ocean themed night this week to present projects they completed so I was planning to wear my pendant.

--------

Any artist realizes that the moment they put their work out there, there's the risk of it being copied. That said, it isn't as if I am the only jeweler to make an octopus with a pearl head, and I most certainly won't be the last! I am protective of my designs in that I don't want another jeweler to make a mold of the piece and start production, which is why I have limited these guys to a very small run, mostly special-order. Each piece is a little different from the next. I like it that way... Keeps me from getting bored! What they may lack in uniformity and perfection, they make up in character. At least that's how I like to look at it...

The enamel versions are tricky, with unpredictable results both in the initial casting (the casting apparatus doesn't like fine silver) and multiple subsequent kiln firings. It would be very difficult for me to enamel a piece for a specific pearl; rather, as with the patinaed metal versions, I look at the piece once it is done and figure out which pearl fits and shows to best advantage.

Just thought I'd share a bit of my process. I hope the joy I derive from making these little guys translates to the final product!

Re: Octopus babies in a large range of colors, now how to de

Thank you for sharing the process, Octogirl. I had figured that matching with the appropriate pearl was the last step. I can remember a long time ago, I did some metal casting and enamel, and the finished product never quite matched the idea I had when I started. :D

It's good to know that each little octobaby is created with love.

Yes, thank you for sharing that insight Octogirl. I have looked at many octosettings and by far yours is the most captivating design. Your creatures look as if they can swim away all on their own.
