HI:

I'd forgotten how beautiful these bangles are!

I might consider 2 mm bangles. Have you?

Thanks, Deb! We don't do 10 carat in the UK (or 14 carat for that matter) so I'd need to decide between 9, 18, and 22. Your bracelets look great, thanks for sharing!

Actually, I had been thinking you might commission Karen to make them for you. She is on eBay, after all. I do know that goldsmiths in the UK usually do not customarily use 10K or 14K. I would assume that, like here, you could find some hearty artisan who would work in any karat gold you requested, however. I know the UK is regulated, but it is supposed to be home to the iconoclast, too! ;))

Thank you for the compliment, Sharon. You have gold bangles already. How wide are the ones you have? I know they are not hammered, but they are lovely! Would you post them here?

Hi Deb, I'm sorry if that's the impression you got. I only meant to ask for your measurements and I thank you for sharing those. Plus, while the hammered looks lovely on you, I'd go smooth and curved to match my silver bangle. But narrower, 9mm is too wide in gold, that's why I asked after your 5mm one.

The roughly 25% of the purchase price in import fees, and the fact that the assay offices are pretty strick about what and how they hallmark would make it more difficult, and expensive, for no additional benefit. I'd pay for 10 or 14 carat but the assay office would only mark for 9 carat. Plus the cost of having to find someone who would mix their own metal...it'd be a pricey process to get anything other than what's easily available here and with no recognition that's it's higher carat. I found this out when trying to add a hallmark to my 14 carat ring to make it easier to sell.

HI Deb:

One of the bangles kept falling off my wrist....and I almost lost it. Had to trace my steps and found it by the mailbox... :o . Hence I traded them in when I got my 24 k beaded necklace made. No question I miss the bright gold color, but they were too stressful to wear!

I'm sorry you were unable to wear those bracelets, Sharon, although since you were unable to it was wise to trade them for something you could wear! I remember loving the story of how you had them made! I am lucky that mine stay put. I, also, have a small wrist and hands that many bracelets fly off! My bangles manage to go on but not (knock on wood) to fall off. They are heavy enough that I think I would notice if one fell, though. ;))

Hi Sharon!
Remind me who made your beaded necklace again? I want a beaded bracelet in either 18k or 22k and I am just having a hard time finding someone. I am tempted to buy the beads on eBay and having them strung by someone local.

Here is a photo of the two new 5mm bangles along with my original five. This picture, like the one above, was taken by the jeweler. It is pretty and artistic, but it does not show how the two size 5mm bangles help fill in the size gap between the smaller and larger bangles I had previously. I will have to take some shots of the bangles together myself!

Hi again!

Wondering if you can measure the inside of the bangle for me? Did you say you have 6.5 inch wrists?

I am not sure if my wrists are exactly 6.5 ". They may be just a bit smaller. A tape measure, just now (rough and dirty estimate), put them at 5 3/4 ". But I get bracelets to fit 6.25 " if they are available.

Actually, I just measured the insides of the bracelets a few days ago for Karen Wickman. For some reason my 7mm bangle has a larger diameter than the others; I have no idea why. Its diameter is 6.5cm. The diameter of the others is 6.2 cm. Remember, they have to go over my hand, before they sit on my wrist! My hand is a heck of a lot bigger than my wrist!!!

I have asked Karen Wickham what she would charge to make two more bangles to match the ones in my set. I have written about her elsewhere. She is a goldsmith who has her own website on the 'net as well as ones on Etsy and eBay. I own a pair of 24K tiny earrings (studs) that she custom made for me a couple of years ago, so I know her work.

Thank you for posting her name. I saw her on eBay but was hesitant so I'm glad you posted your positive experience. I am looking at the possibility of getting a cuff, so knowing that she does nice work is great to know. :D
