Need advice on e-ring similar to Ivanka Trump's cushion cut

I intend to ask my SO to marry me in the very near future, so need to get the ball moving quickly. I have been checking out this site and trying to get up to speed, but the amount of information is a tad overwhelming. Long story short, the SO mentioned she liked the look of Ivanka Trump's actual engagement ring and mentioned cushion cut another time. So, it appears in need to find a cushion cut platinum micro pave ring.

The diamond specs I am gunning for are:
Carat >2ct
Cut Ideal or Excellent
Color >H
Clarity >VS2
Certification GIA or AGS

The SO is a resident, so works with her hands a lot, don't know if that should impact the type of setting I should be looking at.

I have a strict budget of <$20k for the whole thing

I am in NYC so Leon Mege, GOG, ID Jewelry are all possibilities to check out.

My first question, is am I being realistic given my budget?
What else should I be doing after that?

If you live in NY, visit GOG to make sure the stone is eye clean.

<20k will be cutting it very fine for the specs you want. Since LM will charge you around 5k for the setting alone, I think you'll find he's off the table. I'd try IDJ - but if it were me, I like the look of that GOG modern cushion very much.

I agree that Good Old Gold is THE best place to buy a well cut modern cushion, plus they carry other kinds as well. I LOVE the stone Mrsblop linked for you and think you won't do any better. That is going to take you a little over $20k once you add the setting which will probably be $4-5k.

I recommend Steven Kirsch in NYC for your setting. He used to work for Leon and has his own business now, and I would use him over Leon if you want someone in NY.

Well, I just looked at Ivanka Trump's ring, and it doesn't appear to have a halo. But hers is about 5 carats so it looks really big. I would honestly recommend a halo on a 2 ct cushion as they face up small due to their depth. For example, a 2 ct round will measure about 8.1 mm in diameter, while that well cut cushion measures 7.1x7.4mm. The price I was mentioning was for a halo setting. A solitaire with pave shank will cost less.

That rosebud setting was exactly what I was thinking when I saw her ring. I'd probably do that before a real halo just because a soli and a halo look so different. And plus, your SO is probably a logical person. A logical person usually knows if they can afford a ring like ivonka trumps has or not. IOW. I'm sure she doesn't expect it to look the same size

Eta: she most likely won't be able to wear her ring at work. Get her a necklace to wear her ring on when she can't wear it on her finger.

Thanks, I appreciate all the info, it was helpful. I do think it is probably more like the rose bud setting. I will have to check out Steven Kirsch. Now I guess I have to try and find the right diamond.

I adore the rosebud setting! It is absolutely gorgeous! It will be best with a more squarish cushion (equal length sides). But ask Steven about that issue when you check with him about the setting. That 2 ct H stone posted earlier was a really nice one but slightly elongated.

If that's her exact ring, that's an asscher i believe as indicated by the step cut facets and cut corners.
