1. Would you say the color change is sufficient to call it an alex?

2. How would you describe the two color phases? "Bluish-green", "Greyish-pink", etc.?

3. What do you think about the stone overall?

4. Any setting advice for a man?

I know the pink isn't as good, I was hoping for more of a watermelon but I'm still a college student :$$): :$$): :$$): . Thank god my parents saved up in a college fund or I wouldn't even be able to afford this

We need photos that are closer up. Can't tell much from those.

From what I have seen certified, I would call it an alexandrite from the pictures you posted.

Any idea how to fix the color? I have to use my phone because my camera is back home. The stone looks much greener and mintier IRL than in the pictures. Adjusting exposure and such?

I would say it looks like an alexandrite as well. Have fun setting it. ;))

Most men's settings are very substantial in metal and might overwhelm the stone, so I would look for a thinner band style with prongs or a simulated tension perhaps.

Maybe something like this, but obviously fitting the shape of your gem, and a straighter shank. This is a simulated tension setting. A true tension setting puts too much pressure on the stone.

I'm loving the idea of tension and a thinner band (it is a small stone), now I'm stuck on metal. Culturally/religiously it is forbidden for men to wear gold (personally I couldn't care less but my parents are paying and they care very much). Silver or platinum or palladium or some alloy, so many options. Going to discuss eith my jewler, thans for helping me choose a style at least.

If you want to save money, you could go with argentium silver, which is very durable, and doesn't tarnish. Platinum is very expensive, and palladium is somewhere in the middle, but tends to be very greyish.

Good luck.

Will do for sure, currently I'm putting the search on hold since my grandmother was just admitted to the hospital. She has been battling cancer for a while and well. I've talked with my profs and have taken a week off classes so I can fly back to Toronto and be with her.

Thanks for the tips (argentium silver is now my top choice) but as I mentioned in the other posts I have lost all gusto I had in my ring search on account of my grandma being admitted to the hospital.

Chrono: I know you're thorough in your gem perusals and all, but how the heck did you know that this was a $20 alex?! Are you omniscient too?

Oh, and regina3737, I'm sorry to hear about your Grandma - good for you for taking a week to fly home and see her. Wishing her well and sending a lot of PS dust for her and you and the rest of your family.

Although not fully omniscient, Chrono is very close. I actually did a post earlier where I talked about my fears on how it seemed too good to be true. After receiving it, however; my worries are over. I'm really happy for it and I'll show grandma the comment about PS dust, it'll make her smile.
