Mystery Engraving on Great-Grandmother's Ring

I have a small engraved ring that was my great-grandmothers. I have asked the family what the engraving could represent, but all have been just as stumped as I am. From what I can ascertain, the cross is a Maltese Cross, possibly, bordered on left and right by tiny X's, with a large X in the background, and a heart engraved on the left and ring side. No maker marks. No gold karat stamps. No inside engravings. Does anyone have any clues about this ring? We would love to have an idea of its meaning. Thank you : )
