I've been charged with picking out the diamond for my friend's engagement ring. I picked a stone but when the vendor inspected it they felt like it wasn't very clean for the SI1 grading. Their alternate suggestions had lousy cut scores. He already has a setting with seats cut for a 6.6mm stone so it needs to be fairly close in diameter. The number of options is a little overwhelming. I'm hoping you guys can help me find the best performer in his budget.

Here are the search parameters:

Color: G-H
Clarity: VS-SI1
Fluorescence: Faint to None
Price: under $6000

This was the stone I had picked. The HCA was 0.9 and the AGA/NAJA was 1A. http://www.gia.edu/cs/Satellite?pag...&c=Page&cid=1355954554547&reportno=5176783450

Perhaps more of an expert would want to weigh in here but I would be cautious w/ this stone it is an SI1 and the report states "clarity is biased on clouds not shown". I think this could potentially mean the diamond may be cloudy.

SI clarity based on clouds not shown is a no go without a trusted gemologist to view it and let you know if the brilliance/performance is impacted.

Can you get pictures?

16ocean, I would love to have that BG Blue for myself! I think strong blue is a love it hate it kind of thing and she's not that into it but that's a gorgeous stone.

After a lot of correspondence this morning I think we found a couple of better options. I know this has a lot to do with personal preference but which would you guys pick? I should get ASET images for both tomorrow. I'm leaning toward the 1.00 G but it does have medium blue fluor. The vendor confirmed that the stone is eye clean and that the fluor doesn't affect it's appearance. Do you think the difference between medium blue and faint will really be noticeable?

Hi The Geckolady,
If you can post the asset images pricescopers will be able to steer you in a good direction.

Here is a link I have re-read to help me understand cut.
https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/ideal-crown-and-pavillion-angles.106321/

without looking at the asset I would say diamond #1
the table might be a bit big at 58

Size wise diamond #2 might be what fits in the setting
but then the table is 59
and then the crown angle is 33 this might affect some of the fire(I think)
but the bottom half is 75 so that may make for fatter arrows which some members of the forum find nice I am not sure but diamond #2 might be a 60/60 diamond . . . .

Gecko--are you limited to just the ones you've posted or are you open to suggestions?

These might fit:

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.03-carat-h-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-421640

Some people might knock the 35.5 crown w/ 40.8 pavilion and similar tables. However, I own an exact same spec diamond and held it next to a Brian Gavin Signature in a number of different light conditions from different distances... couldn't tell a difference whatsoever. Definitely worth getting idealscopes on those if you're open to buying from JA. Ask for additional discounts.

I really appreciate the input! I also wish the table was a little smaller on number 1. I really like the angles on the first stone I picked so I asked again just to make sure that it wasn't eye clean.

Just got pics. What do you guys think?

Again I want to stress that I am a relative newbie but yes I think the asset and ideal-scope look pretty good. I don't think it looks bad.
It depends what you are going for. If one is looking very critically some of the shafts of the arrows don't exactly touch the pointy parts epically at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions.

One of teodbl's suggestions with some lovely fat arrows is already on hold. What do you think of the other?
