Hair and Ashes Diamonds

Hey guys, im a newbie here but I heard you could make diamonds from hair and ashes and got curious. I have a event planning business and thought about contacting someone to supply me and searching in the internet found this forum. Could you guys give me some instructions on how the process is made and who is doing it? Im trying to stay away from funeral homes and other dealers because of the price!

There are a couple ways to grow diamonds, and several companies doing it, but for diamonds grown from custom material they have to be made with HPHT technology. As a quick overview, the starting material (ashes, hair, flowers, etc.) is purified into a specific type of graphite (carbon). From there, the graphite is placed in a growth cell inside an HPHT machine. After a few days to a week or two, depending on the target size, a rough diamond is grown. The rough diamond is then polished and set into jewelry, just like any other diamond. It can take a couple months or more from when the ashes are provided to when the polished diamond is received.

The purification and growth processes require advanced equipment and knowhow. It is more expensive to grow custom-carbon diamonds than it is for "generic" lab-grown diamonds. Not only is there additional carbon processing and logistics, and a higher failure rate, but the polished diamond also has to meet the specs of the original order. If a growth cycle fails, or the polished diamond is out of spec (poor clarity, color, low carat weight, etc.) a new diamond has to be grown at additional time and cost.
