You have a link to that Jeff Davies stone, Acinom?

Somehow I cannot get the link to work. Will try again when I am behind my computer. Try Jeff Davies Gems and Jewellery on Facebook. Most of the time he has a video in his reaction underneath the post.

Minou,
That window is small; does it have sufficient depth for tweaking or will that make it drop under the magic 5 carat mark?

Here are the dimensions:

Considering it's a tiny bit over 5ct and it's not overly deep so I don't think a recut will eliminate the window and keep it over 5ct. But who knows, maybe the angles could be cut just right?

Theres a reason it's priced as such, it is greyish in the video (see screenshot). It is lovely for what it is, though. I bet it's quite brilliant even with the window. It has a nice crown.

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yk6TJPmTqzI

It is interesting that GRS didn't add their usual 'cornflower' or 'royal blue' or whatever designation they often add.

Oh you enabler, you! True confession time: I don't really have $15k to spare right now on yet another sapphire, sadly With that depth, it would definitely be worth talking to Jeff to see if any tweaking to the pavilion would mitigate the slightly dead center. Jeff is easy to speak with and knows about cutting.

That Sapphire is very slightly grayish. Don't mistake the reflection of the video lights as grey. But, also, no one ever knows until the stone is in hand.

Hmm, on my monitor it appears more than very slightly greyish. One definitely can never know unless it's in hand. If the video was taken under fluorescent light and the tweezer shots taken under diffused sunlight, the difference in saturation would make sense.

Also, we all have to take in consideration how much our monitors are tilted, the bigger the tilt, closer to the viewer, the lighter & grayer the screen will show.

You're right, I honestly never noticed that! How cool. At a different angle it looks like a more saturated blue than before.

My phone always over-saturates colour vs my PC monitor. Gems are so hard to read on screens, ugh.

Did anyone else see a light blue/green 3ct+ Sapphire listed as an auction style listing starting at 0.99 USD on Jeff Davies site very recently?

The listing ended within hours citing an error, no surprise there as I thought it was too good to be true!

My phone does the same thing, it really amps up stones.

If he has a pretty good following, having 99c auctions isn't much of a risk - there will be enough bidders to drive it up to a decent price. Unfortunately.

He probably got a good offer to sell it straight out and took it.

Most of the time the early end to an auction that says error in listing is because someone emailed the vendor and agreed to a direct price (non auction).

I reserved the 2.20 deep pink sapphire yesterday evening! On my phone screen it looked more purplish pink though but I saw on my computer screen that it is in reality more deep pink. I love that color but am afraid it resembled the color of my Rubellite too much? See the '12 hours to decide' thread I just made. Will receive more photo's today from Gary.

Came across this from Brad. I know some people prefer a little yellow in their spess while others like a touch of red. If it's not ideal, can someone explain why. I'd like to use this post as learning opportunity too. :read: Thank you.

Well at least for me, personally. Plus the price is lower and the size bigger.

That is reddish orange. I have no idea what is ideal for spess. Imo, Mexican fire opal does reddish orange fabulously and is a much less expensive option, albeit softer. I do love that spess and I've seen the photo a few times before. Wish I could see it in person.

This one has a lot of brown and is not well saturated.
