Tiffany Style Ring

I know Tiffany is overpriced. I was finding the break even point to what I would spend on a setting that I would just as well off going to Tiffany's. Tiffany's minimum diamonds are as follows.

Cut: Excellent
Clarity: SI1
Color: I
Fluorescence: Medium-None
Symmetry: Very Good
Polish: Very Good

My budget is $3500. If I went to Tiffany's I could get a half carat diamond. So using the pricescope search tool, I found that the cheapest .5 carat ring with these parameters was $2300. This means the breakeven point for the setting is $1200. So if I get a setting that is greater than $1200, I would be better off going to Tiffany's. So my question is this:

What is the cheapest Tiffany style setting (six prong, knife edge) available? So far I know Whiteflash and Brian Gavin have settings for $850. Are there any better/cheaper alternatives? The less I spend on the setting the bigger/better diamond I can put in it! And I would like to do better than the half carat I could get at TIffany's.

EDIT: I should have specified that I was looking at Yellow Gold (18k preferably)

Yes I know. The question was about settings though.... What is out there for Tiffany style settings for under $1200. I have already found Whiteflash and Brian Gavin for $850. Are there any more.

Basically every single vendor in existence carries or can easily get you a six prong Tiffany-style setting for under $1200. There are also some over $1200. They come in basically every price point depending on how much like Tiffany you want it to look like.

I really like that one from union diamonds. It is too bad that it isn't in 18k yellow gold... :/ And the one form b2c doesn't appear to have the knife edge but I found another in yellow gold with a knife edge for $575. The head looks a bit weird though...
Any insight to what this ring actually looks like (rather than just the computer generated graphics):

Ehh, the bluenile ones don't really do it for me as they aren't really the same style. The Jarad Allen one is a little better and is $490 in yellow gold.

I'm not sure why you think the Blue Nile ones aren't the same style? They're much closer to the actual Tiffany six-prong than any of the others linked.

What's her finger size? .5 and .7 aren't that much different... it's hard to get the prongs delicate on a smaller diamond - you may be better off shopping at Tiffany. I've tried knock offs but the prongs are always too bulky for my taste. You can upgrade the diamond for a future anniversary to a larger size. If her finger is small (like size 4?) .5 carat may well be large enough for her.

This one is not remotely like the real Tiffany setting, if that is what you are after.

And my advice is that it is worth getting a quality setting such as WF or BG. Cheapest really shouldn't be the highest priority in an engagement ring if you are sacrificing quality.

I have to agree with DS on this... the setting above has a peg head and looks nothing like the T&Co. solitaire.

I would go with this in 14K WG for $790
http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/18k-white-gold-six-prong-knife-edged-solitaire-engagement-ring-handmade-item-22590

and set it with this for $2570: (HCA 1.5)

Her ring size is an 8. And I agree that cheapest isn't what I am looking for if it means sacrificing quality. But the more of my budget I use on the setting the more I have to sacrifice with the diamond. I do really like the James Allen setting that was posted but in 18k gold. I also now realize that the b2c pic is really nothing like the Tiffany setting. I also found a couple more replicas that haven't been mentioned yet.

So our of these five settings (all in 18k yellow gold) which gives me my best bang for my buck?

Whiteflash: $870
http://www.whiteflash.com/engagemen...knife-edge-solitaire-engagement-ring-1094.htm

Brian Gavin: $850
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/e...fany-style-knife-edge-18k-yellow-gold-5336y18

James Allen: $800
http://www.jamesallen.com/engagemen...-solitaire-engagement-ring-handmade-item-2538

Since1910: $755

Adiamor: $575

James allen is having a sale currently, 15% off settings, that would take that Ja setting in 18k down to 680.

sense its going into a yellow gold setting, is under a ct, and she has a ring size on the larger side, id get a J

looove this one, and it hits 6mm

FYI: you can't buy the Since1910 mounting alone; you have to purchase the diamond from them as well.

Here is my k. My finger is about a 7.5 for comparison. The stone is about 6.1mm

A lot of people have fingers in the 4-6 size range. I think it might be helpful to see what size does for larger fingers.

Plus its a yellow gold knife edge, so you get a visual. This one was the cheapy $180 one though. Not the nice hand made one you're considering.

Just another perspective. I don't know if she is one to care about size or not. If she does, be conscious of the perspective shift when dealing in larger sizes.

.7ct is about .7mm larger than a.5ct, which is a verrrrrrry noticeable size difference.

Agreed! Every point counts when increasing CTW under 1 ct. I mean, they always matter lol, but when deal with stones less than 1ct, seemingly minimal increases have a lot of visual impact.

Thank you for the pics Neil! That is exactly what I am looking for. She has a size 8 finger and my budget is going to put me somewhere between 0.75-0.9 (5.9-6.3 mm) depending on my final decision on the setting. I am absolutely leaning toward the James Allen one at the moment since they have a sale going on. Does anyone have any experience with the one from Adiamor? Or with this one from eternity by Yoni? http://www.eternitybyyoni.com/engag...Prong-Solitaire-Ring-With-Knife-Edge-527.htm#

I have such a hard time deciding the perfect one :)

I make another thread with all six options as pictures without names and take a blind poll on which looks best. So far this thread has been so much help! Thank you to everyone!

If you like that stone posted, do ask James Allen to hold it. Sense they are having that sale, its more likely that someone may but it while you decide.

Keep in mind we are pretty well versed in vendor photography, so were pretty food at telling what comes from where ;-)

She wants yellow gold though.... But thank you for the find. I also checked with union diamond to see if they do 18k yellow gold and they said they will get back to me on Monday.

You would unmount it and remount it. That's why I'm saying see how much they would take on an offer.
