Hi all !!!

I would love to know your views on this setting for a 2ct princess cut. this one is way out of my budget. But i just lovvvvee the floatiness of diamonds. http://stuartmoore.com/url/product:31-05-019#

I was hoping to go for a tension like setting with an underneath bezel(not sure if its the correct term !!)
something like this - http://www.jamesallen.com/engagement-rings/tension/14k-white-gold-spiral-solitaire-engagement-ring-item-1880
they dont have it in princess cut at the moment though.

Also does anyone feel that 2ct will look odd in that setting???

Thanks !!!!!

It depends on preference. It is going to look fairly large on the finger, just becuase of the angles (instead of going straight across), but I don't think it would look odd with a 2ct. The largest they show is a 1.5 ct round, and keep in mind that a princess cut will look smaller than a round. I think they look great personally!

Thanks for the reply!!!

I like the more straighter Kretchmer over the angular James Allan if thats what you mean... JA was referenced only for the basket underneath the diamomd....

Hi I have a semi bezel that is kite set but with a crossbar on mine from Sholdt, it is dainty but sturdy the asscher is 1.51ct at 6.56mm square ring size 4.75 but with the corner set N/S and the semi bezel metal holding it in place I measure that it is aprox 8.5mm so setting it kite gives it a bigger illusion in the first place, the other picture is with my 2 ct round that is set super low and is 8mm it doesn't look too terribly different. The tension set has heavier metal holding/pinching the diamond in place so keep that in mind that the metal holding the diamond would add more width to the overall effect.

Thanks DandT!!!

These images really help!! From these I am hoping that mine will not look odd
My diamond is a 6.82mm square so it is comparable to the asscher... but i am aiming for the straight Kretchmer and not kite like JA. Also mine is ring size 6.
I do see the point you make about the wider metal adding to the total width though !!

Also like the idea of the crossbar instead of basket for the additional security !!!!!

Let me know if you think otherwise.

I guess my first post is wrongly worded...

i would love the Kretchmer setting but in a tension like look...
the JA image was to put across that idea of added security.

Sorry unable to edit the original so posting separately.

Gelin Abaci also has something similar. You can custom create this type of ring, to have a bar at the bottom instead as well... I'll try to poke around and find a setting I'm trying to convey but when you put a bar underneath, the setting essentially becomes a "channel" setting and not Tension.

ETA: found something I was thinking. the whole diamond shows but the connecting bar on the shank supports.

ETA: since I love Sholdt's design so much :cheeky: I love this ring for Princess Cut diamonds.

and this is my very first e-ring. This has a bridge underneath the diamond, but still consider channel set

Guess it will depends on what you want? a cross bar that helps support the diamond if it is angled, or if you keep it traditional setting not kite set, you can have a bridge instead and the whole diamond shows from the finger through profile.

Oh yes, I love that sholdt Too! I've actually had that ring made with an asscher! super secure!

My princess e-ring was only .40ct and I wore that sucker for 4 years straight 24/7 without taking it off. Never did it get loose.
here you go for a 1.15ct at 5.96mm of course princess cut don't have the clipped corner, so your effect would be much larger

A few PSers have that Sholdt semi-bezel setting with various shapes of center stones. It's a semi-bezel so does offer quite a bit of protection, especially for princess cut's corners.

Found these on Brian Gavins site. Have talked to them about the first in princess cut!
But the more I read on Princess , the more I am wary as it is so susceptible to damage!!!

http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/spiral-of-love-platinum-5380p

and http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/solitaire/cait-sholdt-platinum-5599p

Both these designs have two sides protected though.. Am I correct to assume that they will be safer??

I have the sholdt semi bezel referenced above as the cait but with an E-W EC diamond. I've been wearing it just about daily for over two years and love it! It's so beautifully made, the metal looks like liquid. If there's any way for you to visit a store that carries the brand I highly suggest you go check it out. I really struggled with how to set my diamond and loved the Sholdt pics, seeing it in person was the confirmation I needed. Honestly I would love a larger diamond now (tee-hee) but would most likely do the same setting.
Love it with a princess too!
