With great excitement I'm popping back in to share my 10th anniversary ring.
The back story is that my engagement ring has my grandmother's diamond in it, which has sentimental value and was great for us when we got engaged 10+ years ago and didn't have extra money lying around to buy a big diamond, but it has always bothered me that the cut is fairly mediocre. I love my H&A studs and a RHR we had made upon the birth of our first child, so I always imagined that I would get a nice H&A diamond for an upgrade. Even a year ago I was researching three stones, but the problem was that it didn't seem "worth it" to get a diamond only slightly bigger than the one I already had (a 1.1ct). Even a 1.25 ct H&A plus half carat sides would add up quickly, and there's a dearth of H&A stones in the sweet spot slightly larger than that.
Then the lovely pictures of everyone's OECs on here started to pique my interest in an old cut. I stumbled across Ganesha's lovely ring after it had sold, and was a little sad about that, but that meant I had the opportunity to choose my own diamond from Jewels by Grace. I've always been a yellow gold woman, so we had a local jeweler Glen Amey create a lovely belcher style setting in 18k yg. I'm amazed at how lightweight a 2+ carat diamond can feel on my finger, but the setting is very delicate, though sturdy, of course.
Yellow gold doesn't mute the color at all, but I like the buttery hue it gives the diamond, and it appears whiter in some lights from the top (the side always has a yellow hue).
