I like participating in threads requesting for setting help as I find them fun, and now it is my turn, requesting for ideas and inspirations from the CS community.

How would you set my Jeff White Rubellite Tourmaline, 3.31ct, 9mm in diameter in a ring? :Up_to_something:

Forget about budget, just let your imagination runs wild!

Thanks for your ideas and inspirations in advance.

With a stone that beautiful you do not need much. A simple solitaire would be gorgeous.

But wouldn't it be lovely with step cut half moon sides

And this is what I did with my own 10.86 mm magenta rubellite:

Wouldn't your stone look fabulous in a Coati setting with warm gold!

I just did a butterfly setting for a pink tourmaline. It's also 9mm.

Is your stone darker in tone IRL? If so, I would probably stay away from bezels, and use a more open setting.

Yep, no bezels, Rubellite tends to be darker in tone. Open setting with white metal and diamonds, you can't go wrong.

Hi,

That is one beautiful rubelite. That red is wonderful! PSers have given you quite a selection. I have a bias toward pear sides at the moment, but have been looking for that butterfly setting a while now. TL if you could tell me where you got that, I'd appreciate it.

So hard to choose from among the selections. Annette

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and inspirations, some very nice eye candies for certain!

Yup, I am a bezel everything kind of person, ever since I lost the imperial jade centre stone of my mum's ring over 20 years ago during a work-related event. However I appreciate the advice with regard to an open setting allowing more light to show off the stone.

My personal favourite is this one with an air line gap between the centre stone and the halo:

Or something a bit more elaborate like this one:

And I love this one by Beverley K:

Affordable semi-mounts that I like:

And these two simple flower designs:

Gorgeous rubellite, and how sad about your mum's Imperial jade. [emoji22]

If you'd like a vintage look, you could try a 6 or 8 prong setting, which should be safer than 4 prongs. At 9mm, your stone is big enough for additional prongs. :)

Erika Winters has a lovely collection of bezel and prong settings too http://erikawinters.com/jewelry-collections.html

ohhh enjoying this thread - such a beautiful stone! I think the very first suggestion of half moons or suble traps is bang on the money! Delicate double claws with nice open profile to let light in - no bezel. Can't wait to see how this turns out... :appl:

Pic of the stone along with the white Topaz (10.14mm diameter) from Jeff White on my hand, notice how small they look on my chubby hand compared with Acinom's stone on her finger that is nearly 11mm!!!

dk168,

Those settings you posted above; is that all the same designer?

Nope, except for the 3 semi-mounts, as they are from the same eBay vendor.

Acinom, do you know who made that organic style cabochon ring? It's droolworthy.

Gorgeous options! I also love the Sholdt semi bezel with a big round.

DK, I love the Beverly K and the second vintage inspired mount you posted
According to the other posters though it could considerably darken the stone?

The rubellite really has impact on your hand because of the size and colour! But it will look bigger once it's set!

I have a 9mm pink tourmaline that I set in a 6-prong Solstice bombe setting - the simple solitaire setting really showcases the beautiful cut and color of the Tourmaline, and I think the 6 prongs do a good job keeping the setting secure and the girdle of the stone kind of buffered against glancing blows. But I'm a solitaire girl at heart; I do think your Rubellite would look great in a 3-stone setting with icy white sidestones, maybe bullet or pear shaped.

Found a prong setting that I like, as the prongs are quite substantial:
