Hi Guys,

I have been reading this forum for couple of months and learnt a lot but, not at level of you guys. I am looking to buy an engagement ring for $5000-$5500 and can extend to $6000 if needed. This is my first ever diamond purchase and I would really appreciate some help here.
Please guide me what should I look for and what I can get for this price.

What I am looking for and the questions I have.
1. Cut: Best in my price range
2. Size: 1 Carat is what i am looking (Should I go for .9* as I will not really see the size difference and use money somewhere else).
3. Cut/Color/Clarity etc.
4. Color H: Round is the cut where I will least notice the color and have bit of flexility, should I go G ?
5. Clarity: SI1 or VS2
6. Buy from Tiffany etc or I will get better or equal diamond for less price. I am worried about ring designs.
7. Where to buy Ring from ?
8. How to get wired discount and other discount you guys talk about here.
Thanks I learnt from couple of months.
1. Cut: True Hearts or Ideal
2. Clarity: Eye Clean SI1 or VS2
3. Color H
4. Table 54-58%
5. Depth 60-62%
6. Girdle Thin Medium ?
7. Crown angle 33-35%
8. Pavilion angle ?
9. Brilliance check (I have to look for the link I Saved somewhere)
Any help would be appreciated, Thanks in advance.

You are unlikely to get a one carat in that spec range in a hearts and arrows super ideal stone (I will look though). And you aren't getting close to those specs at Tiffany for that price. Maybe 12k would get you that at Tiffany.

I can see you did a lot of research on the four C's. There's one C you missed though= COST. 8)

Please read this: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/likelihood-of-finding-a-signature-super-ideal-diamond.174235/

I suggest you ditch the hearts and arrows. Go for a nice GIA Ex. And in the 90-1.0 carat range. G/H SI1.
Depth can go up to 62.4 and crown can go to 35.5... it's not about any one number, it's about how the numbers work together. You need a good HCA score and an IS image. That's all.

Okay?

PUT ON HOLD NOW, we have lurkers and if I were a lurker I'd steal this out from under you in a heartbeat.

Ask them to have the gemologist check it over to see if the clouds are impacting brilliance. If they are not-- you are good to go.

I hope you aren't going to be the 'I can't buy the first stone someone recommends' people because that stone is cherry.

ETA: ASK FOR IDEALSCOPE ON IT. It's not posted.

Other stones.
http://www.brilliantlyengaged.com/1.10-carat-h-vs1-excellent-round-cut-diamond-gid-17705.html Crown angle is fine on this one. Still passes HCA because of other angles. And it is a VS1. Plus BE is a fantastic vendor. Just ask them for the diamond image and the Idealscope and they will get it to you. Post it here for us and we'll help you.

Some other nice choices at James Allen:
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.01-carat-h-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-378583 This is a lovely 60/60 style stone with great numbers. The 59% table is fine for this style of stone. Again, it's how the numbers work together. And this one has fantastic numbers. About 60/60 style stones: https://www.pricescope.com/wiki/diamonds/60-60-proportioned-diamond these diamonds tend to favor white light a little more than colored light. But with this one's crown angle it should be a nicely balanced stone. Right at original budget!! Good thing about 60/60 stones is that since many of them can be duds (this one won't be) they are discounted by the trade. It's a great way to get a gorgeous stone on a tight budget if you can find a nice one. GET AN IDEALSCOPE IMAGE>

And this one:
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/1.03-carat-h-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-363073 which if eyeclean would be a great stone as well. GET AN IDEALSCOPE IMAGE.

:wavey: :wavey:

Okay. You are set.

Pick the stones you like. If there isn't an idealscope posted (only the True Hearts stones have them posted), get them and post them here. If the stone is SI1 ask if eyeclean.

And then you can go from there.

Idealscope images will take up to 5 business days. Okay?

Since I just threw a lot at you, here's a short list:
If you don't get that B2C G (first choice). My preference is for the BE H VS1 (second choice). Or the JA 60/60 1.01 H Si1 stone that is so budget friendly. The BE stone is up there because it's a great stone potentially and BE has the nicest settings BY FAR of all the vendors I've posted stone from.

What kind of setting does you lady want and what is your budget for a setting.

Okay?

lol Yeah I would have gone with less carat from tiffany and increased my budget little bit. Just anted to make sure if that is the way to go or not.

Will check all the stones and ask for IS images and post back.

Thanks for you reply.

"BE" would be Brilliantly Engaged, the vendor that also carries the second diamond Gypsy identified.

Are you sure your gf wants a Cartier branded ring, or does she like styles like those two (which by the way are vastly different - but you already know that...) Cartier will not set an outside stone into their settings, and has a limited inventory of stones. You'll be paying more and getting less, both in terms of size and (likely) cut quality. But if it's a Cartier branded ring your gf wants, then get the second setting you posted. You'll be spending less on the setting and therefore will be able to spend more on the center stone. Ask them to identify some diamond choices for you in your price range that meet your specs (proportions and angles etc).

Reply I got back from B2C
Greetings from B2C Jewels.

We do not have Ideal scope image available for the diamond with stock# 6257674.Instead we have an ASET scope image of this diamond which gives us the better idea of the light performance of the diamond.

I have attached face up image and the ASET scope image along with this e-mail.

The image he sent was same on their website.

That's fine. It's a good ASET.

Settings. BE (Brilliantly Engaged) makes fantastic halo settings. Get the G SI stone and send it to them if you decide on a halo. Or get the stone I posted from them. Either way.

Their halos are fantastic (this is a halo setting: http://www.cartier.us/collections/engagement/engagement-rings/n4246800-cartier-destinee-solitaire). It should run you about 3,200 ISH in platinum from them. And you should get platinum if you can at all afford it for pave. Here is the one I would ask for pricing of: http://www.brilliantlyengaged.com/florence-bpid-1259-45.html

A solitaire like this: http://www.cartier.us/collections/engagement/engagement-rings/n4163600-solitaire-1895 I recommend this setting: http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/engagement-rings/elegance-platinum-5415p Fantastic quality, looks VERY much like the Cartier (that's what it was designed to be close to). BGD has fantastic quality.

I would contact BOTH BE and BGD and ask them what their lead time is right now if you have a date you are trying to hit for the engagement.

OKAY?

Cool Thanks for all those links. So how much would the second one cost ? Do I really need to go Platinum ? or white gold is good ?

Never heard back from them. http://www.brilliantlyengaged.com/1.10-carat-h-vs1-excellent-round-cut-diamond-gid-17705.html

I asked my Fiance and she really like Blue Sapphire with White Diamond around it. Is it a good Engagement stone ? Where can I find those ?

So far this is what I am looking at. Any other input guys ?

Call BE, don't email them. Someone will always pick up. I've had successful emails with. Chris but that's because I have a very good rapport with him. Their CAD work is amazing.

Hi I was almost ready to order one and had a word with my fiancé and she likes blue sapphire, Where can I get that one and are they good stones ?

Also the three stone you mentioned JA 60/60 is gone :(. I am left with two stones I need to react quick before they are gone as well. From two stones you posted one has strong fluorescence is that an issue ? I have read from the link you posted that it sometime shows blueish tint even under the direct sunlight or might appear dar ?

Thanks

Does she want a blue sapphire as a center stone?? I'm confused.

http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-6318064-1.00-carat-Round-diamond-G-color-SI1-Clarity.aspx?sku=6318064&utm_source=pricescope.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=pricescope.com

Buy this stone if she wants a diamond center.

If she wants a sapphire center, yes they are gorgeous stones (wont' save you a heck of a lot of money though) and they are very good choices for engagement rings (durability). Our colored stones forum: https://www.pricescope.com/community/forums/colored-stones.11/ Is going to be the best to get assistance with buying a sapphire. I would go for a 4k budget. Ask for a heat only or no heat sapphire. And go for the nicest one you can find. And then I would put it in that halo setting I posted for you above.

This is the diamond board here. Colored stones is the colored stones forum. I would just post a new thread there... "my girlfriend wants a sapphire center stone please help" and they'll help you.
