Bathroom renovation part II

I know I posted a thread awhile ago about my bathroom renovation. However, I've had some time to really think about what I want and the look I'm going for, and I think I've finally decided on all of the design elements. We've got a contractor (a friend of ours who just got into the business, lucky us!) coming over on Tuesday and this is what I'm going to show him. I'd love to know your thoughts as well, especially between the 2 different floor tiles (I'm having a hard time deciding). The bathroom is a small L shaped room and the walls will be painted a deep dark red color.

The vanity and side linen closet:

With this sink (I am in LOVE with this sink). Still need to decide on the faucet, though.

And the 2 floor tiles. Which do you like better?

The links to the floor tiles do not work for me.

That's weird. Wonder why? Anyway, here's pics.

Oooo it's going to look fabulous!

Hard decision on the floor...I personally dig the Ash b/c it looks like weathered wood and I have a massive weakness for that.

I'm leaning towards the ash too. Love the review where this person did it in a herringbone pattern. I don't think our room is big enough to do this, though...

Ash as in the greyer ones for me, and I like the herringbone pattern.

Mind you, I am not a fan of beige and brown, except for chopsticks, wooden spoons, chopping board, or my dog (and I did not choose him)!

I'm normally the same way, but the vanity and side cabinet are espresso, which is a very dark brown that looks almost black, and I'm trying to bring some warmth to the room. The shower tile I had originally chosen was all greys, but once I chose the sink I realized I needed to bring some of the brown tones into the other elements.

I looked at that type of tile 10 years ago.
I loved the look.
however, there were "grain" differentiations just like one would have with rustic stained wood....think uneven/odd grooves.
I decided mopping could be an issue and went with a more even textured tile.
even the tile we have is textured a bit around the edges but it works.
the upstairs tile though has more texturing and it was a bit of an issue for the guy laying it. think making uneven tiles appear even.

I like the paler grey floor tile better, the colour of the brown woodlook tile and the espresso cabinets don't work for me, because you have two different (possibly not complementary) browns and if you look at the first image you have linked to the floor in their pic is grey, and it looks good.... the grey tile will also make the room less dark looking overall. Pale colours make a room seem larger, darker colours smaller.

I think either tile works for the shower.

I'm curious what the other tile in the shower, will be. I'm assuming the glass tile you've chosen will be an accent, or walls at most? What type of tile for the shower pan? Are you doing a shower with no lip and no raised pan? For instance, I have 4 types of tile in my shower. I have one accent wall with 5/8" square mesh-mounted Walker-Zanger glass, the walls are floor to ceiling offset 12x24 high gloss Emser Pietre del Nord tiles in "Maine",

Looks a bit like this: I have a niche too....

a 5/8" mesh-mounted tumbled travertine on the shower floor, and an all-around border made of the glass mosaic with a 6" glass stick liner

(We did a full bathroom remodel last (as in 2013) summer, so speaking "bathroom" is still reasonably fresh in my psyche.) ;))

Of your prospective floor tiles, I like the warmer wood-look tile myself...

I think the ash will go better with the cabinet you chose and make the room look larger. I had a dark wood floor (very similar to the other one you posted) put in our guest bathroom and wish I would have chosen a lighter color like the ash. The dark wood really made the room look smaller and it was a tiny bathroom to begin with.

Your new bathroom looks like it is going to be gorgeous.

It's going on the walls, around the tub. We don't have a walk-in shower, unfortunately.

Contractor came over last night. We went through everything. He's going to do some research on getting the vanity custom ordered without the included sink and mirror, and check into tile prices. All in all, I'm very happy with his assessment and looking forward to getting this project up and running...sucks that I gotta wait until Spring, though.

When our contractor was here last week I mentioned that I've always wanted to do a glass "cottage" style door on both the bathroom and master bedroom. Well, he happened to come across these, and I'm so excited! Not exactly the style I was looking for, but I love them! Of course they'll need to be sanded and painted, and I'm looking at some decorative film now to put on the glass. :appl:
