Hello all, I am new here! I have been lurking for years but finally have a reason to join.

I need your help!!
Fi asked me to get the process started by giving him some ideas - and then he will take it from there!

For the setting, I love the VC Emilya; however, I will probably work with him to have the basket altered to be more "robust" (not sure the right word for that). I adore the top down view, but the profile has something that is just not "full" enough for my taste. I'm sure his creation will be stunning.

On to the diamond. I love love warmth, and round, and light.

Here are the specs we are looking at:
  • total budget - $20 - $22.5k
  • I suppose that leaves appx ~ $15-17K for the stone
  • 2 carat + round
  • I - M color - i love warmth, but not hazzy
  • SI1 or better - eye clean is a must
  • symmetry - need a perfect (close) circle - 1.0 proportion I am an engineer, and a little OCD :)
  • excellent or ideal cut
  • I prefer antique cut over hearts and arrows - but open to options

Did I leave anything out? Can all this be had for the budget above? I have found a few that are close, but miss the mark on one or more of the parameters.

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

heres an AGS 0 K for under 20k, also you get a discount if you pay by wire transfer. a little over budget, but black Friday is coming, maybe they will have a sale. Plus, 2.5 cts!

this one has nice proportions too, but id want a photo first, as the arrows may be too thin for your liking

Well... you say you love warmth - what d'you mean by that? Could you post a couple of pictures of what you consider "warm" stones that you like the look of?

I've got a variety of diamonds of different colours - E through light yellow - and to my eyes "warm" doesn't start until L/M, perhaps K for certain cuts... I/J still looks "clearly white" to me. Certain flavours of rounds will face-up whiter than others given the same body colour, so that's another consideration, but in practice it's of far less consequence than choosing which range of body colours to target!

Great question Yssie.

I'm off to look to see what Infinity has to offer. They usually have some nice K's.

OP, you mentioned that you prefer antique cut and ideal/excellent cut - would you like to focus on those first (which in my mind means branded cuts like AVRs or CECs) and broaden your search if nothing appropriate comes up? Would you prefer an OEC (antique but might not be ideal) or H&A (ideal but not antique) if you had to pick one?

I prefer the L at BGD if you are okay with L. But if you aren't here are some other stones in the J-K range:

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/2.01-carat-k-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-319786 If eyeclean it's a lovely stone. And very budget friendly.

If the crown angle is over 33.5 and the pavillion angle is under 41, it would be a great choice. Get an idealscope image.

I just asked them to send me more info on this one a half hour ago, if they could get any. The colour looks much more pinkish/brownish on the site than most of their other lower-coloured stones - I don't see any yellow at all - and if it's actually that colour IRL, and it isn't just an artifact of photography... it becomes a lot more interesting.

I LOVE the BGD Blue L and I think it's the best value for money though, if that's the colour range OP is looking for. Precision-cut, in-house, lots of info available about the stone, generous policies, and one-stop-shopping for the setting as well.

I agree on the BGD stone. Fantastic stone. And they have GORGEOUS settings.

On the 2.15... a lot more interesting indeed. Please report back when you know!

Re: 2+ carat round warm diamond search - need your help, ple

Thank you all for the enormous amounts of information. I am reading through, clicking links, and trying hard to make sense of all the new information.

The pink/brown J diamond at James Allen is stunning.

I do not know how I feel about florescence in general - and it is VERY strong blue on the blue diamond.

I am looking for pics to help aid the discussion. I tried on an M colored stone at Lee Michaels recently and loved the warmth - but the setting what too white and make it look off colored.

Thanks again!

Hi Crystal :wavey:

What color metal are you planning on for the setting? BTW, I think your ring is gonna be stunning!

What do you mean about the fluor?

The stone isn't blue, just the fluor, and that will only show in UV lighting. It will typically make the stone look whiter in that lighting, however. But only maybe a grade or so?

Okay, so this is over budget, but SHOOOOOOT... it's 3.22 ct, , super clean at VVS2, an old cut, AND an N color! Might be worth getting now and saving just a little more for the setting a little later. :naughty:
