How much is this diamond worth?

To my layman's eyes, the diamond is eye-clean.

A family friend who owns a jewelry store is offering it to me for $10K with the ring band as well as the wedding band. I do not intend to take advantage of the relationship, and I told him so. I would like to know if this is a fair price for this ring, and if you think it is worth it. My budget is about 10K for the entire ring. Should I go with this, or ask for another diamond?

The ring itself is a Simon G 18KW SET 1.28D. (Price tag was $4,500).
This would mean he sold me the stone for about $6,500.

To answer your question, it seems like this is a fair deal. There have been a few stones recommended above ^ that will be good deals also. They of course don't include the setting.

So while Im far from a diamond expert, I would say if you are happy with the appearance of the stone, go for it!
