I've been lurking on PS for and doing all the research I can on GOG and other sites before making a thread about a diamond suggestion. I'm looking for a ~1.7 carat diamond with D or better color and VS2 or better clarity and have a budget of about 16k. I know the setting that the diamond will be set in, the only difference is that it will be white gold and it is provided on this link: http://www.laurenbjewelry.com/Products/2063-240-ct-oval-diamond-rose-gold-engagement-ring.aspx

I do need advice for a diamond to place in the setting though. The jeweler I'm working with has suggested this diamond but I want to be as sure as possible that it's the best one available in my range: http://www.bluenile.com/diamond-details/LD04947986?click_id=973955627

I have some others that I have found searching all the various sites (PS, WF, etc.) and want an opinion on which one would be best. These are the diamonds I have found:
http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-6274238...m_medium=referral&utm_campaign=pricescope.com

http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-6329748-1.71-carat-Oval-diamond-F-color-VS2-clarity.aspx

http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-6300278...m_medium=referral&utm_campaign=pricescope.com

I'd love any suggestions as to which one of these diamonds would be best. Cut and minimal bow tie are very important to me as well. I look forward to all of your wonderful advice.

... with D or better color
FWIW1: D is the highest color, actually it is the grade with the least ... or no ... color.

FWIW2: Be aware that neither color or clarity make an diamond any more sparkly.
Only good cut can do that.
A superbly-cut J SI2 will have vastly-superior light performance compared to a poorly-cut D IF.

Many people can not see the difference between D, E and F diamonds, but the price difference is huge.

Now that you know that, if you still want a D, and don't mind the higher price or lower carat weight, then go for it.

But I do recommend getting out and seeing the color grades for yourself to discover YOUR comfort range.
The majority of well-informed buyers end up close to G or H ... but that doesn't mean you have to.
Being at the peak of a bell curve is not superior to being elsewhere.

Please ignore anyone here who tells you, "You don't need a D diamond." :nono:
Perhaps you do.
A couple posters here don't tolerate diversity and expect everyone else to get the grades that they consider to be the ONLY grades to consider.
After getting educated everyone has their reasoning for their decision and they are all over the map.

Just so you make that D-decision after seeing E, F, G and H too and seeing how you can get a much larger diamond by going down in color.

Oh and only look at diamonds graded by GIA or AGS.
EGL and some other labs have soft color and clarity standards ... IOW the same exact same diamond that EGL graded D VS2 may get grades of G SI2 or worse from GIA and AGS.
EGL diamonds SEEM like a bargain, at least till you learn that their grades are lies.
Shocking, disgusting, hard to believe, but true.

I'm sorry, I meant F or better color! I proof-read that too, I can't believe I missed that mistake. I'm actually fine with F color but thought i would include the others if that created more options.

OK...you can't buy an oval cut stone without pictures. There is no telling what the faceting pattern will look like or how
bad the bow-tie will be. I suggest James Allen or GOG if they have any ovals that fit your needs.

I will check out James Allen for you and will post any well cut stones that fit your specs.

I have a VIDEO of the diamond in question from the jeweler that he sent me. I'm curious as to what you all think of the diamond from the video provided. I'll try to embed the video, if that doesn't work just click the link below.

I posted a picture of the setting that we will be using, I'll provide the link again. The only difference is that the setting will be white gold instead of rose gold. http://www.laurenbjewelry.com/Products/2063-240-ct-oval-diamond-rose-gold-engagement-ring.aspx

I'm hoping I can get an opinion on the diamond in the video I linked above on youtube. The oval is 1.72 carats, F color, VS2 clarity with excellent polish and very good symmetry. It says it's excellent cut as well but I'm going to ask for the ASET image to post on here so I can be sure. Does anyone have an opinion on the diamond based on the video provided?

This is the current diamond I am considering purchasing. I would love your opinion on it. That's also the diamond that's in the video posted. I would love to see your suggestions on other diamonds in the same range that fit those characteristics as I'm not set on a particular stone yet.

It's a grainy video that shows an oval with a bowtie. Can you get an ASET?

Is 15k your budget?

These are the best ones I could find (some are already posted in this thread) at JA:

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.50-carat-d-color-vs1-clarity-sku-277579
http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/oval-cut/1.60-carat-g-color-vvs2-clarity-sku-302603

You would put on hold and ask for an ASET image.

What's your opinion on the stone I posted with the video?

My opinion was that the video wasn't good quality and that the stone has a bowtie and that I need an ASET image of it to show how the light and where is reflecting and being lost. Did you read the link I posted for you. It explains that.

I'm working with Lauren B Jewelry in the diamond district in New York. When I asked about the ASET image they said they do not have them as they do not use them. Should this be a red flag? Is it possible to get the image from somewhere else? Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

I did read the thread in the link you provided. I don't think that a flush fit with the wedding band will be that huge of a deal. She is in love with the setting and I think it would be hard to sway her opinion. I realize the importance of an ASET image, but I don't know if I'll be able to get that from the jeweler that's going to make the band. My other question is how do you feel about buying a diamond and setting separately then having a local jeweler mount them?

People do it all the time. I would do it the other way though. Have the jeweler making the setting make it according to the dimensions of the stone. And send the setting to the stone vendor to mount? Why? The setting vendor won't insure the stone during setting, and the setting vendor will.

If the jeweler can't provide the ASET image, is there any other way to obtain one?

Yes. there are two ways.

You can buy an ASET scope and learn to use it. $50 bucks. Then you can use it on any cushion you are examining.

Or you can take the stone (pre-purchase or within a FULL REFUND return policy. NEVER buy jewelry without that) to an appraiser that has one. And they can do it for you.

Where are you located.

I have a few more video's of the diamond in questions, the 1.72 F-VS2 that was posted earlier. The jeweler says he does not have an ASET scope and therefore cannot provide the image. Should this be a red flag? I uploaded the videos to youtube so that you all can view them below, thanks!
