One of the comments to your article suggested cold water and conditioner. I'd try that and Windex before this method - seems like it would work, but also seems like it's more time consuming and perhaps more painful (the elastic was wrapped tight!).

I tried the cold water thing. I've also tried windex, lotion, and some other spray stuff the jewelry store had. And holding my hand above my head for a long period of time.

Ick, you may have to have it cut off. My mother had that done to her wedding ring. If lotion or windex didn't work, I don't suppose soap would either? We used windex at Tiffany's. How about putting ice on it for long enough to make it a tad smaller? Good luck!!

I'd put you hand in ice and see if that helps. My mom also had to cut hers off with wire cutters.

That's my fear. Ugh, why didn't I take it off months ago??? I tried soap as well...forgot to mention it. I think I will combine methods- I will ice it while above my head, and then immediately try the elastic thing.

Have you tried Vaseline or peanut butter? Both are also supposed to work well.

Has anyone tried this method?

http://lifehacker.com/remove-a-stuck-ring-from-your-finger-with-an-elastic-ba-1515026883

Or does anyone have another method that works? My E-Ring should have been removed about two months ago. I need to get it off of my finger before pregnancy makes my fingers any bigger.

I did this for MIL when she broke her arm. I had her take an anti-inflammatory (she was supposed to be any way with the arm), wait 1/2 an hour, then dipped her hand in cold water, dried, and used the elastic string method. It worked like a charm, save that the only long, thin, flat elastic I could find was from a really nice pair of undies that I had to sacrifice

ETA: You will need someone else to do it for you. It must be wrapped SUPER tight, and it can be challenging to make sure you get the elastic under the ring. It took us several tries to get it right, but we got it!

Maybe cut out salty stuff for couple of days to reduce swelling. And then try the youtube method.

I've seen the utube method work, without the spiraling, using dental tape to reduce the knuckle mass. It was still difficult, though, and I imagine the spiral trick might have helped. If you have floss threaders around that might help for getting the elastic or dental tape under the ring. (Floss threaders come in handy for fixing snags in sweaters too. :wink2: )

I've had growing/shrinking fingers for a few years (since being pregnant with my son, actually), which had gotten me in some tight squeezes on occasion.

Tips:

- cut all salt for a few days
- wait until evening
- get cold, if you can
- keep your hands up (like you're holding a book over your face while reading in bed)
- THEN try any of the above methods and you'll have a much better chance of success. And for those few days, don't mess with it at all ... it can aggravate the knuckle. Good luck ....

Fingers can swell from the trauma of repeated unsuccessful attempts to force a ring off.

If you think you may have swelling you may want to give it a few day's rest before trying the next idea.

The few times my fingers swelled up, I used cold water and liquid dishwashing soap to get my ring off. "Personal lubricant" might also work, that stuff is really slippery.

Haha, that cracked me up.

Lots of great suggestions here. I think I'm past the "slippery stuff" stage and will have to try the elastic method. Just need to find some elastic...

Still.... I'd get your hands cold for a longer period of time.

Unfortunately, nothing worked. I tried a combination of methods and it just won't come off. I think the wrap method is more successful when the swelling is only due to, well, swelling, as opposed to actual fat.

The "good" news is I called my jeweler (who made the ring) and they will cut it off and fix it for only $35. They asked if I wanted it resized, but I'd rather it stay at its current size for the motivational factor.
