Click on the GIA cert and it will give you the info on crown and pavillion angles or you can just post the link to the stone. ;-)

That stones a bit deep, that causes it to face up small for its CTW, making it look like leas than .8 CT.

Did it have to be from blue Nile? And what's the budget all together setting included?

Thanx for your answer..

Budget is about 4700 (VAT not included) USD .
Doesnt have to be from BN ,if you recommend something better i am willing to listen. But thing is that i know for a fact that BN ships to my country (Europe).

hmm
What do you think of this? Most people say an I in a solitaire under a ct would be plenty white.... but I dont know how you feel.

i would prefer a H-G colour, and a 18k White gold setting...Tell you the truth, before this thread i didnt know about how much impact the angles have in a diamond..What grade should i seek in that scale? (Holloway Cut Adviser)

I recommend

Table 53% - 59% --- 53% side will look smaller for its ctw, 59% side will look bigger for its carat weight (less critical)
Depth 59% - 61% --- Try to go toward the 60% (More critical)
Crown Angle 32 - 35 --- Try to aim for toward 34 degree (less critical)
Pavilion Angle 40 - 41 --- Try to aim for toward 40.5 degree (More critical)

If I'm wrong, someone, correct me

I dissagree with this. The smaller the table the more fire(generally speaking), and that doesn't really have an effect on face up size. So my preference is 55, 56, but I'd consider 54% and 57%.

The depth is too limiting. My preference is more 61 toward 62+, but you are fine to go to 62.4.

Crown angle is usually best between 34-35.

Pavilion angle is about right.

This doesn't mean its the top of the top cut, but if you find one with angles within those ranges, request the seller to provide idealscopes, these will tell us more about the performance.

Maybe look around? A lot of people first dismiss an I assuming it'll be "yellow", but for many, its very white. Also, why do you prefer 18k? In general, particularly in white gold, it doesn't necessarily equate to " better". Its more gold, sure, but is more yellow alloys in your white metal better? It'll, in general, mean that metal is more yellow in tint than its 14k counterpart. Also, your metal is typically rhodium plated, covering up the gold anyways. Now that wears off, and the more tinted the gold underneath, the less time, typically, between platings.

I always recommend 18k for yellow gold, but for white I don't think going up to 18k in a solitaire necessarily means "better". For rose gold, both 18 and 14 are nice, and are better depending on the color desired.

If her most important criteria is that " it sparkles" cut is going to be what you focus on most. It will impact the sparkle more than the color of the stone, the clarity, and the type of setting you put it in.

James allen is a good vendor that sells out of the country. They let you reserve up to 3 diamonds for "review"

you ask them to hold them, review them and provide idealscopes for them all. Then, they will tell which of the three they liked best, if the stone is eye clean (this allows you to explore SI1 stones, which easily can be eye clean, but you would want someone to review them before buying. ) also if you are unsure how to read the idealscopes, if you post them here people are more than happy to give opinions on it.

here are two i like from james allen,I didnt see a third i was in love with.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.80-carat-f-color-si1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-369093 (if eyeclean )

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.81-carat-h-color-vs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-351760

Ask them if they offer a pricescope, or referral, or "preferred members" discount. I dont know what they call it, but make sure to ask and be a little persistent. I believe they still offer it but you have to ask. It would make those down a little.

Id do this setting, its cheap in both 14 and 18k. Simple, but nicer than their absolute cheapest settings.

Thanx for this Niel. And thanx diamond for your replies , you have helped a ton !.

I would prefer to stick to blue nile , cause of personal reasons. After these valuable info that you have provided,i updated my search criteria, and found out that by purchasing a VS2 clarity diamond (cause from what i have read there is no difference from VS1 to the naked eye- therefore dropping on clarity grade) i can score excellent on Holloway, and + Ideal cut with H + colour with the same amount of money , or even less. Therefore i am probably dropping on clarity , just a little bit in order to obtain excellent cut and brilliance.

1. Is this thought correct?

2. As far as my Original Q, about the setting...Which one should i choose so that my diamond is flattered and shown better?

What stone did you find? Mind posting?

I really lots of settings will flatter a round stone. What does she like? 4prong? Six prong? Cathedral (where the band goes up to the basket) or more flat like a Tiffany solitaire? Knife edge? What's your remaining budget for the setting?

Has she tried on any? Showed you any she likes?

And yes its very smart to drop in clarity but stay in the vs range to get the best cut.

If in budget, this would be my favorite setting BN has... again, I would do 14k

theres also this one, notice how it doesnt have that cathedral like the first one, also its a knife edge and 6 prong, its an attempt to make a setting a bit like a Tiffany setting. I personally like the other one better, BUT if this is what shed prefer or its more in budget, this is nice
