Hi there,

I have an asscher engagement ring and am currently looking for a wedding band to match. I had decided on a wedding ring (like the first and second image) but since speaking to my jeweller (who also created my engagement ring) he has as advised me against it.

The jeweller is able to make it no problem but mentioned that during his time as a jeweller he has seen a number of the baguettes bands look tired and uneven due to the diamonds moving slightly over the years and that bagguetts are never going to be 100% the same side by side. He also mentioned that they tend to look dark with the buildup of grease and grim over time which is difficult to remove with little sparkle.

His suggestion was to have the same band but with assher cuts instead (3rd and 4th image) he said it would look nicer over time as asshers are easier to purchase square and I wont run the risk of them looking uneven over time, plus they will sparkle more. I appreciate that step cuts dont sparkle as much as rounds etc but I was hoping to gain some sparkle!

I really do prefer the look of the baguettes to the asscher with my ring, does anyone have any advice? Also, would it make a difference to the sparkle and/or movement if I were to have claw set or channel set?

Thank you

I have baguettes on either side of the stone and they really don't offer much sparkle. If you want sparkle you will be better off
with asschers.

I also like the look off asschers better (square etc).

Do you have picture of your E ring?

It might help us visualise what would work with your E ring.

I have a generic asscher solitaire and was deliberating on what eternity would look the best. I was toying with generic asscher or the carre in the eternity of various sizes. My first love is the generic asscher eternity. here is a post on my comparison and thought processes.

here is the final post on SMTB folder of what i chose to match.

I have other photos but i cant seem to link it across.

If you have the opportunity to have some to try on, it would be better. Take some photos and post here for us to comment. heheeh.

... I worry a little about the quality of the work your jeweler is seeing, honestly.

I'm an eternity band addict, and I've had baguette bands, carre bands, and french cut bands. I focus on vintage pieces, so most of the ones I've bought have been from between the Edwardian period and the 1950s. I have never noticed baguettes shifting in quality pieces, and it's no harder to clean a baguette band than it is a different kind of step cut. It's not like they magically attract more dirt. Both types would need to be cleaned a little more frequently than a band of rounds ... but if that's the kind of sparkle you love, I say it's worth the ten minutes a week it takes to toss it into the ultrasonic and then scrub it gently with a little brush!

I'm going to go out of a limb and say your jeweler may have a tough time sourcing calibrated baguettes, and that's the source of his complaint. Personally speaking, I tend to prefer channel set - it looks "cleaner" to my eye, somehow - and I'd suggest trying on some horizontal baguette bands to see how those work ... the vertically set bands tend to be very wide, which can be be challenging to wear with an engagement ring (though absolutely fabulous if you wear them on separate hands). Seconding Greg's query for pics ... I'd love to see your ring. I love asschers!

some places to look at.

I really like the look of baguettes set horizontally as Circe mentioned and I too am a big fan of channel set as the straight lines of the channel comfortable but also for the uninterrupted lines.

I also like round/alternating baguette set horizontal as it breaks up the lines a bit to add some visual interest.
