Hi everyone,

Recently I've been enjoying some taupe colored stones. Cool toned silvery champagnes, tans, etc... I've found some interesting 'walnut' pieces and some that venture into a victorian purple/lilac shade.

Does anyone have any taupe stones in their own collection that they could show me? I would love to see them.

I don't have any, but here's a few I find quite pretty:

Gemcal's walnut pair: http://gemcal.com/fancy-spinel-1-31-cts-2796-14

A fancy colored tanzanite from The Gem Trader: http://www.thegemtrader.com/July 2006 Pink Zoisite Page.htm

Afghan pink tourmaline: http://www.thegemtrader.com/Mar12APTourmPage.htm

Bicolor Zircon: http://www.thegemtrader.com/Jan 08 BCZircon Page.htm

Im not sure if this qualifies as taupe, but Ive been into bronze, or brownish-pink-orange or even a zoney stone with all three..lol. I love Tourmalines like this and I just bought one!

This is what I mean...I bought this one recently from Beau-wy on eBay. I love the stone...sometimes you see the layers of color, and sometimes it blends to look bronze (like the pic where its in between two other stones). These are beaus pics as they are better than mine. My stone is 3.15ct.

Theres a smaller (1.86ct) similar stone on his site, it is less zoney than mine, but I prefered the look of the one I bought.

Oh It's GORGEOUS!! Pray tell, what do you plan on doing with it? I bet it would look gorgeous in a 14k rose gold or one of those dark gray alloys (do you know what I'm talking about? I can't remember the name for the life of me and my google fu is failing me. It's like gunmetal color?)

I think I'd like to get myself a pair of cool toned taupey/champagne rounds to wear as earrings on days I'm having a hard time finding matching accessories. I think they would go with just about everything if I do them right? :)

Oh, IEB, lately I've gotten a thing for taupey-browny stones. Love 'em.

Almost bought these from Doug Menadue -- gorgeous smokey quartz, 7 x7, for earrings. I have brown hair, though, & thought they wouldn't show up very well. Then somebody else snapped them up. Any smart PSer want to confess?

This may be from the same rough, don't know, 9 x 9. Also sold. The cut on all 3 stones brings them out so well, I drool.

JewelFreak:

How about something like this to try? At $6 a pop it's not too much of an investment. :)

Diamonds by Lauren always has really pretty brownish pinkish diamonds or coppery ones and they have some cool gemstones too.

They always have unique colored stones. :twirl: I look on their site often.

Would you all please stop this until I find my peach/copper colored stones? I was hoping to score a few before the gem world went crazy over them and jacked up the prices.

Nice zircons, ieatbugs (has anybody asked if you really do?). They would tempt me if they were still available! I'm still kicking myself over the smokey quartz but he'll have more, I'm sure. Or somebody will.

I like the garnet on this page (3.61ct)
http://www.finewatergems.com/garnet.html

Tan's ebay stores sometimes have pretty brown to pink changing/shifting garnets too.

Think, this one is in the taupe color range

0,14 ct taaffeite from Sri Lanka - not the biggest but maybe the rarest.

My advice - look for spinel from Sri Lanka if you want these taupe colors - they are extremely cheap - 10 Dollar pct !!!

If you find a biger native cut - recut it - cheaper then garnet!!!
