Abraham Lincoln was a Republican. That party has changed so much...

When I was born I think Carter was Pres. The first election I remember was Reagan vs. Mondale and Gerladine Ferraro who was the first female VP candidate. I do remember being devastated that SHE didn't win! Had I been old enough to vote, I would've cast mine in the M/F category!

One of the biggest landslide in history. I didn't vote b/c the party was over by 5 PM local time.

President of South Africa - PW Botha "Die Groot Krokodil" (The Big Crocodile). When we had our referendum in 1992 to decide whether politics should be opened to non-whites, he campaigned against it, punctuating everything by poking his finger at whomever he was speaking to.

Amazing how things change in the space of 30 years!

I hate to say this, but: Harry S. Truman! The guy who took over when FDR died in office after seeing us through the Great Depression and World War II. President Truman was only around long enough to drop the bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. But if anyone wants to discuss the wisdom of that decision we have to take the discussion to Around The World!

He make the correct decision by dropping the bombs, b/c had we invaded Japan it would have cause more lives on both side. Pres Truman knew nothing about the Manhattan Project until after FDR die, b/c him and FDR never got along. FDR kept a lot of top secret information away from Truman.

This sounded incredibly young to me. It made me go look up who was president when my daughter was born. (All those presidents kind of blend together in those years.) It was George Herbert Walker Bush. The elder and far smarter Bush.

Eisenhower, although JFK was elected during my birth year. My birthday is in the spring. When my boys were born it was Reagan ('83 and '86). I don't feel old, but some on this thread make me rethink that.
