No one choke please...

Our Verizon bill is $275 a month - and that is with my work discount of 18%
3 smartphones - 2 with unlimited data, 550 mins shared, 250 texts; and 1 just added with 2GB data and unlimited talk/text for the son just out of the Navy.

I have said this before but we are in the sticks and the cell phones are our only internet. We pay for wifi hotspot on the 2 with unlimited data. Normal usage is 20-25GB per month but since son is home our usage this month was 110G! :errrr: Guess we will be testing out if it is truly unlimited data or if Verizon police will knock on the door. Sucks that we have to pay full price for a phone to keep our plan but the overage charges would be way more than that. I just bought a Samsung S5 for $499.

Hopefully Verizon doesn't try to pull a fast one on you like AT&T did to us. I got a text saying that I've used more than 65% of the 15GB data share plan. Well, we have unlimited data for 2 of our phones. When DH called them, they said someone called to switched to the 15GB data plan. Yeah, we never did. So DH asked them to switch us back, and they took a day to do that.

About that 'unlimited' data thing ...

I was visiting my SO's family and they do not have an Internet connection for their home.
I used my MIL's smartphone as a hotspot/WiFi thingie for my laptop because she said her plan has unlimited data.

So there I was happy as a clam just using the Internet, when I was notified I needed to download some software update.
Her connection wasn't very fast and the pop-up screens said something like ... 20 minutes remaining ... then 10 minutes remaining ... then 5 minutes remaining ... then 10 hours remaining ...

WHAT?

Turns out she does get 'unlimited' data, but there's some fine print.
She gets only a limited amount of data at her usual speed, but then it slow down to a crawling speed after she exceeds that data.

I never did finish that software download and had to do it when I got home.

My bill is $99 for unlimited voice, text and data but after all the taxes and fees it comes to $131.

Verizon insists that they do not throttle data kenny. I am pretty sure they don't because I keep an eye on speed with speedtest.net and it is always 10-18 mbps which is pretty good for 3 computers using it.

It scares me every time I have to call Verizon for anything and I always tell them they'd better not touch my plan. For all the good that does.

I never said Verizon did.
I have no idea what carrier my MIL uses.

So it's called "throttling data".
Thanks, I learned a new term.

I wasn't bashing you... Just stating what they tell me for my plan. Other carriers I understand do that which sucks.

Bashing?
Huh?
Dang, who said you were bashing?

But thanks.
If I ever get a smartphone and a data plan I'll keep Verizon in mind for that. :wavey:

I pay 220 ish for 2 smartphones and one tablet, with a 20% discount.
Unlimited talk and text, 10g of data, insurance (which I pay more for DHs SS Note 3 since it's considered a "phablet")
I also have the international calling plan - 3.99 initial charge and dirt cheap per minute rates.

Thank god for unlimited text - we average about 5k a month
