So the time has come to propose to my girlfriend of 5 years. We have discussed the ring shed like quite a bit. I'll try to describe what she has told me and hopefully you all can point me in the right direction so that I can make an informed decision on my largest online purchase. I have already done a lot of research and know the basics on what to look for. It is the technical details that I am getting stuck on.
I have gotten pretty hung up on all the different facet types. (X type, Hearts and Arrows, Mark T, etc). All of them look good to me, it would be going in a single halo white gold setting with a narrow pave band. I don't think the girlfriend knows the difference between Vintage vs Modern cushions so that isn't too important to us. I think sparkle and size are more important. However I am torn on which facet type is best bang for my buck in terms of great optics. I'd presume I want little to no light leakage. Is there a facet type that has less light leakage than others? Is going with one of these better optic diamonds worth the increased cost? Should I not focus on the optics and focus more on the other 4c's?
I'd like to find a cushion diamond 1.0-1.7 l/w ratio that has a larger table if possible so that I can get a better smaller diamond. I'd rather a .9 ct that appears to be the same size as a 1.1 ct because it has less depth and use the savings on carat weight on other qualities. Should I be thinking this way or is it unrealistic? How does one go about searching this way?
Some say size, some say optics, other say cut. Which specs and qualities should I be less concerned about when looking at cushions?what should I be looking for in order of importance?
Here are a few options that I've narrowed it down to if you have any you think I should consider please add them to the thread I have about a 6K budget on the diamond:
