Hi everyone

I am new to the forum but I've read it a bit and would like to thank you all for the precious information and education you provided me with! However I would need to ask you some further opinion as I am still very far to be an expert. So thanks in advance!

I would like to buy a small 0.4 diamond for a ring and I found a few one from james allen and blue nile. I am looking preferably to a canadian diamond as it would be quite important for the recipient of the ring.

Could you kindly give me your opinion on the diamonds below? If they would be eye clean and if they look good in  terms of brillance/scintillation/etc? And simply what would you prefer? They all score well below 2 in the hca.

James Allen should send me the idealscopes next week.

My favourite (am I somewhat right or not?):
http://www.jamesallen.com/mobile/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.41-carat-g-color-vvs1-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-200002

Then i found these two for comparison

http://www.jamesallen.com/mobile/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.41-carat-g-color-if-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-153395
this one has minor detail of polish. Would they be visible at naked eye in your opinion?

http://www.jamesallen.com/mobile/loose-diamonds/round-cut/0.40-carat-g-color-if-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-188252

Finally i found this one in blue nile, but I don't have any serious picture apart from the GCAL report attached.

Apologies for the stupid questions but I am not that expert.

Many thanks in advance for your comments!

I'm a newbie, but I will try to help you where I can.
1. Will you give the pros here a budget for the loose stone?
2. Most of the stones above are "not available". Did you place them on hold?
3. They aren't AGS certified, so we don't have a report on light return. You can ask James Allen for IdealScope images for I believe three different diamonds. Not sure if they can give you ASET images as well...
4. What are you looking for most in a diamond? Color, clarity, etc... OR, just excellent light return in an eye-clean stone.

I recommend you also look online at Whiteflash and Good Old Gold. They, too, are reputable.

Numbers on the above stone look good. Its very high clarity. You could drop down to get a larger stone. Dont know
your budget though.

This one has a high pavilion angle and may show leakage. Would need to get an idealscope image.

The numbers on this look good but its an IGI certificate so not really sure if a G is a G and not lower color.
Someone else would have to advise on this stone.

The numbers look good on this stone too however, I really like to see what I'm buying so unless this is a lot cheaper or
there is some other good reason to go with it I would stick with the JA. Bluenile does have a good return policy if you
did buy it and didnt like it.

Apologies for the stupid questions but I am not that expert. No stupid questions.

Many thanks in advance for your comments!
Is there any reason you want to go so high on clarity? You didnt give us the cost on these stones so we can not take cost
into account.

Thanks all for your replies. I will post the idealscopes as soon as they send them to me. Meanwhile I was impatient for some initial comments.

The reason I am high in clarity is because I was/am not super confident in buying a diamond online and initially i was looking only at bluenile. And also I found mainly these specs on the canadian diamonds i found on their inventories. As i told you, the recipient of the diamond would really appreciate this origin.

Also, she would prefer not a too big stone on a day to day basis and we generally would prefer to save some money rather than having a 0.5 0.6 ct. So my budget would be around 1500/1600$.

At the end i tried to minimize the price with priority to the cut and light performance and eye-cleanliness.

According to this, while waiting for the idealscopes, should i consider something else?

Many thanks again!

This one is a bit over budget. But I figure I'd give you a look and bump your thread.

Thanks. I checked but with lower clarity I didn't find much (especially canadian diamonds). Keep on monitoring though.

Hope to get the ideal scopes of the ones I selected soon by JA. Hopefully tomorrow, so we can have a better idea.

First off, I'm going to assume that Canada has some importance to you as a couple, to her, or that she is particularly concerned about the ethical side of diamonds. If it is the latter, here are some (not necessarily cheaper) alternatives.

1. Vintage/Antique diamonds -slightly different facet pattern than the modern brilliants that you were previously looking at. The facets tend to be larger, giving off bigger flashes less frequently. If you think she'd be ok with pre-owned.

a.

http://www.jewelsbygrace.com/loose-diamonds/under-1-ct/53ct-transitional-cut-diamond-gia-certed-j-vs1.html#.VCHlDPldWSo

b.

The 0.55ct on http://www.loveaffairdiamonds.com/loose-diamonds/- http://www.loveaffairdiamonds.com/0-55ct-old-european-cut-diamond-uncerted-j-k-vs2-si1/
2. Head over to the Lab Grown Diamonds page (not allowed to discuss it on the main forum) and ask for their advice. The sites that they will point you to are real, crystallized carbon. This might be neat if you're a science couple, although may need to be approved if you think she'd be iffy.

If you choose either of those:
1. Ask both of these sites about their definition of eye-clean. Make sure it matches yours. ie: from 6-iches, from the side (dependent on setting). Both of these are very trusted vendors.
2. Lab Grown diamonds are only certified by IGI, which has looser standards than GIA and AGS. Go higher than needed for color and clarity.

Setting:for any diamond you choose
I'm just going to post this setting recommendation: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/my-new-set-does-this-look-ok.115349/

Hello everyone,

JA finally came back with the ideal scopes and confirmed my favourite is the best (excellent light return and wonderful brilliance and sparkle with a nice contrast from light to dark).

Overall they said they are all vey good but the second one is a bit darker.

What do you think?

Thanks a lot!

Sorry the app misplaced the images... the second image shown should be my first choice (200002).. while the first shown image should be the darker rock.

So the second aset image is the one that you liked from your first post and the same one the gemologist likes? I think its a winner.
All the asets look good.

Yes the 200002 is my and their favourite. I post it again alone. Do you see anything against it? Thanks

Of those, I think number 3 (188252) has the strongest Idealscope image - it's a great solid red across the stone with strong contrast from the arrows.

The other two appear to be too deep and have light leakage issues in the 'inner ring', you can see it where the red turns whiter, and one of them appears to have very little contrast to the arrows.

If you have all the stones on hold (so no-one else can swoop in and snipe them from under you) post the stone details and GIA/AGS numbers, and the HCA scores. That will enable better understanding of which is best.

The 200002 is
Table 56
Depth 61.10
Crown angle 34
Pav angle 40.8
Hca 0.9

The 188252 is
Table 57
Depth 60.60
Crown angle 34
Pav angle 40.7
Hca 0.8

My main question, in addition to which one is better, is if the 200002 ia a good buy?

The 200002 would be preferred as it is canadian as the recipient of the diamond would like.

Also JA gemologist said it is the best i terms of light performance brilliance etc.

Many many thanks for your opinions!

If they're both HCA scores similar, I think go with what looks best to your eyes :)

It might just be that the stone was slightly tilted in the image, hence looking like slight leakage on one side of the 'inner ring'.

Apologies - I was at work earlier and may welll have been skim-reading more than I realised... :???:

If 200002 is Canadian as desired, the JA agent has said it looks the best, and it has the smaller table (so should have more fire, if I understand it correctly) I think it will be a great buy :)

Post some pictures when it arrives!

In a worst case scenario, I think JA has a decent returns policy :)

Once you've said yes to it, post a link to the stone on the website so we can be nosey! lol

EDIT: Apologies again, I clearly didn't even read your first post properly with the links in!

Just to throw a potential spanner in the works... How about a Crafted by Infinity Diamond, one of the best cuts available?

http://highperformancediamonds.com/index.php?page=view-id-diamond-infinity-new&id=939

I'm not sure if its Canadian but it seems to match your colour/clarity mentioned so far, plus a little fluor will make it whiter when you're out in the sun! Oh, and it's under a grand and a half... ;-)

You also get buyback at 100% of original price (less shipping) if you upgrade, or 80% of original price (less shipping) if you decide for some reason that you want to return it a couple of years down the line!

Thanks again!
