Yes, we do agree on political issues. He's much more outspoken about his beliefs though.

We both feel pretty strongly about politics so it would be difficult to be happily married if we didnt agree. If we didnt agree the
only option would be not to discuss it at all.

When I was single and needed a new car, I had a boyfriend that I had to completely not discuss the subject (car) with because we
disagreed and got in arguments about it. It was a sign...not the kind of person I should have been with. Isn't that just
ridiculous that two people could not talk about buying a car (especially when it was my money and he shouldnt have been
so vested in the subject)?

We didn't have the same beliefs/views when we first met. The longer he spends with me, the more I have molded him ;-)

Haha, DF, thanks for calling me out in the title!

I voted "we agree on certain things." It doesn't cause problems in our marriage when we disagree on an issue. We respect each other's views and we have really lengthy, great conversations about why we feel the way we do. I like it this way. I think I'd be bored if I were with someone who completely agreed with me on everything.

Kidding, no we don't agree but we like debating. Sometimes I end up changing my mind after a discussion and sometimes he does.

To answer the question, yes we agree on most issues, with him being the more conservative and having changed more spectacularly over the years - on issues ranging from his now very nuanced position on guns, to gay marriage, women's issues, and race. He straddles both sides, having held most of the conservative positions expected of a white male in his youth. He swears 30 more years of living and having gone so deeply into American history, and dropping any emotional attachments to positions that didn't hold up to the actual history is what changed him. I guarantee no one sees him coming. He's a walking anomaly in this deep red state, and I'm lucky to have him. There are great discussions and very little strife in our house....

Life would be so boring if we agreed on everything. It is a challenge and a learning experience debating issues with my wife. She is one smart Princess - and has a view of the world that few people in the US can have - or appreciate.

Key though; is that we respect each other even when we disagree on an issue.

We agree on what I would consider to be the "important" issues.

We often disagree about the best method by which particular ends should be accomplished, but very rarely disagree about the desired outcome.

We also have differing priorities when it comes to the political issues that drive us, but in the end, we're pretty much on the same side.

Was a dem before I started college, through college, and after college, started swinging right after I worked closely with many private owners of small businesses. Became a small business owner myself, while still working for corporations moving up the corporate ladder, then back to the private sector and you start to see things in a new and different light. Hubby and I agree on almost all things conservative, but I can see why those view a certain way because I’ve been there.
