Callie, the first time I saw possums was when I was in Australia. They were ring tail possums (picture below) and I thought they were adorable.

When I saw my first American Possum I TOTALLY FLIPPED OUT. I was in NJ and it was this HUGE rat like creature with a long slithering tale and it took me SEVERAL minutes to process the fact that it was a possum and NOT a rat. But I never for one moment thought 'cat."

Yeah. Australian possums are MUCH cuter and don't have the same 'swamp thing' creepy factor. I seriously freaked out the first time I saw an American one. I was like... what the ever loving BLEEP is that??? And my legs got a bit rubbery.
