Hi all.. Much needed some help here. I had been looking out for a 8 main cushion for a long long time.
I am hoping to find one that's in 1:1.06 ratio, at least a 1.4ct (not bigger than 2ct), and as long as it face up white (so maybe a I color), with no florescence. I am leaving the budget open as its so difficult to find the right eight main, moreover meet the about requirements.

This 8 main is to pop into the HW micropave halo setting. :)

Anyone who come across an excellent 8 main, please please please let me know.

TIA. :)

Surely there must be some budget, some number you are not willing to go over. Anything to help narrow down the hundreds of possibilities...

Erm, about USD15,000. My ideal carat weight is 1.6ct but do not mind a slight variation as I understand the difficulty of locating one excellent 8 main. I color preferred.

TIA

Gorgeous 8 main antique faceted stones:
http://www.engagementringsdirect.com/1.70-carat-g-vs2-royal-chandelier-cushion-brilliant-cushion-cut-diamond-gid-141043.html

Gorgeous 8 main modern faceted: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.70-carat-f-color-si1-clarity-sku-293558 But may not be eyeclean.

8 main, probably eyeclean: http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.53-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-sku-319826 But I don't love it as much as the F above. But might be worth getting an ASET.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/1.51-carat-i-color-vs2-clarity-sku-288175 Another, and again, I don't love it as much as the F.

http://www.jamesallen.com/loose-diamonds/cushion-cut/2.11-carat-i-color-si1-clarity-sku-275453 Same .

Remember to compare spread, not carat weight.

That done, I can tell you that some four mains or modified four mains might perform better than the I color 8 mains I just showed you. If you want to see examples, let me know.

8 main hearts and arrows cushions (picture is on G-Cal and these have been ASETing out very well):

Four main you really should give consideration to:

Also there is nothing wrong with fluorescence. Only a very very small percentage of stones have a negative affect from it. And a good gemologist can examine the stone and tell you if it is safe or not.

Hi Gypsy, nice to see you here and thanks for the selection. I had checked out the JA F earlier but it's not eye clean. I am going for 8 modern as I prefer without a cutlet.

BN hearts and arrows is similar to BGD new line of signature cushion?

I am looking at 8 main modern as I had seen one and it took my breathe away. Its a fireball, high crown - like a fluffy pillow. I'd love to have a small table of about 46% to 59%.

Is my requirement realistic? Please enlighten me as m a newbie at this.

Thank you

Check out the Blue Nile signature cushion - I think they may fit your needs!

Unrealistic. No. Hard to find, very.

Where did you see that one? The jeweler who sourced it might be able to get more like it.

Second. Call Mark at ERD ask him to source one for you. That is your best bet.

Third, call Barry at excel. The below stone is probably being bought by another PSer, but Barry may be able to get you another similar to it.

Hi Charmypoo, thanks.. I've been looking but so far, nothing that I am confident of to pull the tigger.

Hi Gypsy, it belongs to a friend and she happened to chance upon it during her holiday many years ago. Yes, Mark has been keeping a constant lookout for me but we both understand the difficulty of locating one.
I shall try contact Barry to see if there's any luck.

The stone from excel, does it look too "squarish" as in its not rounded enough? I hope I am making sense here. :p

It is very square.

If you are in touch with Mark then you have the best working for you.

Can your lady ask the owner where her ring was bought?

Also where are you located?

Have you thought of having one custom cut? It is a possibility. Jonathan at Good Old Gold might be able to help you get one custom cut.

If it were me?

Just for kicks, I'd call B2C about this one: http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-4636460-1.80-carat-Cushion-diamond-I-color-VS2-clarity.aspx
It's an I with Strong blue modified 4 main. It's a nice size. And it's got a great cushion-y outline. And a small table. Great ASET.

If it's not overblue, have it sent to you. They have a very good return policy and pay for shipping both ways.

Why?

2 reasons. One, you can play with it for a good week and see what you think of the four main faceting coupled with a small table. And you can see if you like the Strong Blue.

You can show it to your lady too and see what she thinks.

That way, you get to see, IN PERSON, what a well cut 4 modified 4 main with a small table looks like.

You may decide you love it.
You may decide that you like the faceting, but not the fluorescence.
You may decide you like the fluorescence but not the faceting.
You may decide that you don't like the fluorescence but and the faceting.

And that way you will be more informed. I think you've clearly done a LOT of research, but I also feel that maybe having a stone in person for a few days to play with under different lighting conditions (and you can take it with you to local jewelers and pop it onto settings to see what it looks like) is different.

Every time I see a fancy shaped stone in person and get to spend time with it I learn something.

What you might learn is: custom cut is the way to go. And that too is valuable. But you might learn something else. And that might be worth it too.

They aren't able to find an identical stone as the jeweler is no longer in the industry.
We had came across stones with florescence but it did not speak well to us. We'll prefer to do without.

The search has been going on for so long, we are thinking if we should abort it and look at alternate modified modern
cushion cut.

Did you see the fluorescent stones in person? I really urge you to, if you can.

Can you show me the GIA cert (assuming it has one) and a picture of your friend's ring?

Yes we did see a fluorescent stone in person and somehow we did not like it "glowing" in the dark.
Nope, we did not have a chance to take a picture of the ring, and not possible to get one. We met at a convention and parted there after.

I remember reading either one of you have a 8 main?

Charmy does, I think.

But the issue is (and you probably know this) there are MANY 8 main facet plots. It would have been helpful to which one it was that you liked.

Yes I remember reading her tutorial too.. And got the plot that I will like to have from there. The two middle plots....

Contact Jon at GOG and ask about a custom cut stone. I really think that's the best way to go. I'll be honest if I had your budget, I'd totally do that.

That's why I suggested you call and talk to Jon about the possibility.

He's an expert and very straight forward. He will tell you the pluses and the minuses. And let you know what it would cost, how much time it would take, etc.

It doesn't cost you anything but time to research it. And, as we've seen, you are good at research. :wavey:

It may not be viable for you, or it might be the perfect solution. You'll never know if you don't look into it.

I really wouldn't custom cut this stone. I want to see your friend's stone that you like because a high crown is not what really goes with these 8 main cushions.

If this is what you want, ERD comes across them once in a while. I also know a cutter that cuts these stones.

What was wrong with Blue Nile again? Their signature cushions are 8 main and look pretty fantastic to me. I like them better than the BGD cushions because of the softer outline on the Blue Nile. If I was buying a modern cushion right now, I would likely buy the Blue Nile Signature Cushion although I wish I did that last year when the prices were lower.

It is a bit pointed but once set ... not noticeable.

However, hang in there... one might come up. I see 8 mains pop up every 4 months or so.

Again, Blue Nile has a great return policy. There is no risk to getting the stone in person and seeing what you think. If you don't love it, you can easily return it.

I have been on a look out for months ;(
Return policy does not work in my way as we need to pay tax for incoming items and it could amount to several hundreds. I must be sure before I call in the diamond so that the cost don't run up, eating into my budget.

You get the taxes back if you return. Where are you located?

Even overseas people can use return policies.

Singapore. Yes, it can be returned but it take long the the paperwork... Its a whole lot of hassle.
I done it once and gave up, paid the tax and yet returned the items. :wall:

Its way above my budget.. Can't afford to cross too far as need to side aside the funds for setting it.
Thanks so much for helping to look
