Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and am making my first post after weeks of browsing and lurking in the shadows doing research.

I am working with engagement rings direct on their "Ada" Harry Winston inspired halo ring. I was originally looking for something around 1.00-1.25 ct in a cushion halo setting. They found me a 1.03 ct "modern brilliant cut" which has been hard to find. It is 6.35x5.85 mm, G, VVS1 with 66.6% depth and 55% table. I have attached a link to the GIA report so I can get some experience opinions. I have read some of the forum rules and didn't see anything saying not to mention prices so if someone can confirm this is allowed I will include that to see if I am being quoted a reasonable price.

GIA report #: 2131308127

I am a little concerned about the size, I was hoping to find a brilliant cut 1.20 ct as nice as this diamond but they're hard to find and ERD as urged me that this diamond specifically is hard to find and the perfect one for this setting. I have looked hard for pictures of Harry Winston style halo's in 1.00 ct on a finger but haven't had good luck, can anyone point me in the right direction as far as that's concerned? I am just worried that it will not look big enough.

Thanks!

If it's not what you want, then keep looking. You don't want to regret not getting a bigger stone later. You could probably trade the clarity for a bigger size. What is your budget?

Don't get too caught up on carat weight - look at the actual dimensions. Some stones are deep and can look smaller face up than others, etc. You don't need VVS clarity either. If you can post your budget that would be helpful. And if you do go with ERD for the stone make sure they get you an ASET of the stone so you know it will have good light performance. An ideal cut stone will face up larger and whiter than a less well cut one - cut should be your #1 priority. Just FYI, Good Old Gold has several of their Signature Cushions in the 1.2-1.3ct range.

Thanks for the replies. My budget is around 7500-8000. If this isn't reasonable inform me. From what ERD told me, GIA diamonds don't have a cut rating is this accurate? What dimensions should I look for in a cushion cut. I've done my research and used the charts on old old gold to confirm the dimensions looked good

You simply cannot choose a cushion by dimensions. You have to choose by how it looks. Then if you find two you like, you could choose the one that faces up larger. Do you have a picture of the stone they recommended?

I think I like these dimensions better for the ring you plan to make because the shape of it is so pretty. I don't like really elongated cushions.

A more square cushion:

more elongated like your original:

This one is $7121:

Unless you can get pictures and ASET, I'd choose one of the above. I would not pay for VVS clarity unless the price is not much more than these.

Would I be wrong to think the ASET's in those links don't look very good? I will post a picture of the diamond later today, but the diamond is about $5200

The other thing is none of those diamonds are moden brilliant cuts they are all the crushed ice look which I am not a fan of. One issue is that I can't view any of these diamonds in person so I don't know how to look other than pictures, paperwork, and dimensions to get the best size out of the weight.

OP - ERD is highly regarded when it comes to their cushions and their ability to procure cushions - if you like their ADA setting, I'd stick with Mark and Chris at ERD for sure.

I like the ERD cushion they selected for you - the plot on the GIA report indicates it is a 8-main cushion which are hard to find and, when well-executed, very beautiful. See if ERD can provide more info on this cushion - a photo/ an Aset/ a video - which should assist you in your decision.

Personally, I did not care for any of the GOG suggested cushions.
