Hi, JJJ :wavey:

I wouldn't use Blue Nile... not that they don't have good stone, it's just that you have no idea if they'll be eye clean since they don't have images or videos. From what I remember, they don't do ASETs or Idealscopes, either -- if I am mistaken, someone please correct me. 8)

Would you consider working with another vendor? I'd say those diamonds are most likely not eye clean... what is your max budget?

Thanks for the reply. I want a minimum 2 carat stone. I want excellent GIA cut. My budget is $15k CAD including taxes. I'm sacrificing color and going to J, hoping it wont be too noticeable from the top. Also I feel pretty good with SI1 and even SI2.

I'm ok with some very small inclusions if I see them, but just want to avoid the black inclusions, I dont know what they are called??

If I was looking at a GIA report, what wording do they use to identify the black spots vs. other inclusions?

Also, I can return it if I don't like it.

I understand... can you tell me what $15 CAD translates to in USD? I'm not sure how taxes work in Canada, so please excuse me if I ask an otherwise dumb question. ::) If you buy online from BN, do you have to pay taxes?

I have a 2.43 GIA XXX J/SI1, so I totally get dropping in color to get the size you desire! SI clarities are more difficult when you can't see the stone. The "holy grail" would be an eye clean SI2 with an inclusion that could easily be pronged, but those are harder to come by...

Also, would you consider an old cut stone of the same size? Sometimes you can find those in lower colors (although they face up whiter due to faceting differences vs MRBs) for amazing prices... i.e. you could probably go to K or even a "high L" with fluorescence.

I also wanted to express that if you went a little below the 2 ct mark, you may be able to find that magic 8mm size or something extremely close. 7.9 and 8.0 are basically indistinguishable as far as size goes.

It is almost impossible to buy SI stones from a vendor that does not provide magnified images. And for that matter, I wouldn't consider buying from one that does not offer idealscope images. I think BN provides some information for their signature stones. But you are taking a huge risk even looking at 2 ct SI2's. Many will not be eye clean at that size.

Thanks. The exchange rate is 1.07. 1 USD = 1.07 CAD and 15,000 CAD = US$14,018. I would have to pay 13% taxes being in Canada, if I buy it from the USA.

What is an old cut diamond?

This is true. I originally had a 2 ct I/SI2 that was eye clean, but that's not common. It took my SA a long time to come up with it, and I was able to be there to "okay" it for cleanliness... Eye clean SI2's are out there, but it would be extremely helpful to use a vendor who has images so you can see for yourself if it's clean enough for you. :))

Hi John, have you inquired about this stone: 2.01 Ct J/Si1 eye clean from Union Diamond rep.
GIA 2176403960 quotes around UD email to me. I'm passing on this one in favor of the one I have. But this is a great contender. Ask for Leah.
" 2.01 carats J color, SI1 clarity GIA certified Round Diamond for $12,156 pricescope bank wire price

61.2 depth 58 table with excellent polish, excellent symmetry, excellent cut grade measures 8.05 x 8.10 x 4.94, strong blue fluorescence. 35.5 crown angle and 40.6 pavilion angle.

It’s a 1.4 on the HCA tool on pricescope.

The diamond is eye clean, white, the fluorescence actually makes it face up a little whiter, and is a bright, brilliant, beautiful stone."
