(To Recap)

The plat/diamond Art Deco ring that I bought last week I suspected had a chipped diamond (visible only under a loupe) as this wasn't listed so I sent it back for the diamond be replaced.

The seller was more than accommodating and said she would sort it with another diamond matching through her jeweller. I also needed it made smaller by couple of sizes. This ring straight away drew me to it, as long as the inclusion is safe & not making the diamond prone to cracking should I knock it, then I'll happily keep it as it made me smile, the inclusion isn't visible looking at it without a loupe & love the detailing of it all.

Skip a couple of days and the sellers jeweller looked at it & said it's not a chip, it's in fact a feather inclusion under the table (I'm
by no means an expert, Total opposite in fact !) and I could either have a full refund or have if sized & sent back to me end of this week.

Update:

Today I received the ring. I took it to 3 independent jewellers, 2 specialising in antiques and it is an inclusion, however it's broken the surface of the diamond. They said it's so beautiful they would keep it but £900 is a lot of money if I crack the diamond.

They said it may well have been like that for 50 years, and to enjoy it regardless but I can't really get over the chip- if it were an inclusion that didn't reach the surface I wouldn't be bothered.

It certainly is not 'under the table of the diamond' like the sellers jeweller apparently said.

Gutted.

: ( Think I'm best definitely sending it back for refund.

How heartbreaking! Sorry to hear that. If the seller is reasonable, and you otherwise like the ring, maybe you can renegotiate the price down so you can budget for a replacement stone if/when needed. Just a thought since it's a beautiful ring!

It's an ideal situation but I'm sending it back, I have been caught out
Before.

Out of principle I just would like a refund.
It's not the end of the world, my hunt for a lovely genuine diamond Art Deco ring goes on : ))))

I feel bit better now about it, I've wasted to much time over this one.

Ah, I'm sorry to hear this :(( , Sorry for the disappointment, but there are lots of pretty vintage pieces out there; I'm sure you'll find something you love! And you'll have fun looking in the meantime :cheeky:

I'm a nightmare!!

I got up this morning & thought of the what I wanted in a ring & that's it.

The jewellers it saw were so complimentary about it to , I've uploaded pics.

I may try & ask for some money back- it's just so pretty, so what I was looking for & could well be like that for
£50 years.

All sorted!

It's a keeper, can't part with it : )

Now have the funds if it does crack but going to just enjoy it - I love it very much.

Lol Nattshants84! I was going to suggest you consider keeping it since you love it so much, but you sounded so sure about sending it back I didn't want to irritate you!

It really is a special ring, and it looks perfect with your new band - I think the stone will be fine, I'd probably just be a bit careful when wearing it but at the same time not fret about it - I think these older rings deserve a little TLC anyway!

Definitely, I'll take great care of it. I was a bit annoyed at first , dissapointed but it's old & I'm just glad the seller was so accommodating & patient with me!

Know I've made the right choice .

It's our wedding anniversary today so it's nice timing , couple more photos!

It really is a lovely ring! I would have had a hard time sending it back too. I'm glad you decided to keep it inclusion and all.
Little things like that make the ring more special to me. Its got a history and I'm sure its been so very loved the way it is.

I'm glad you kept it too. It may never crack and it's also in a bezel, which helps protect it. Enjoy!
