Fancy Yellow Diamond...Need Help!

Okay so I bought a lot of loose stones from an estate sale, there were some junk rubies, a really nice sapphire and some other gems in there but one really caught my eye. A tiny 0.29 ct yellow diamond. I know yellow, after brown and black is the cheapest color of fancy diamonds but does this have any value? Also, take a look at the picture whar do you think the clarity is(Im guessing I2)? I took it to a jeweler and the gemologist wasn't in but the assistant tested it and it is a real diamond and weighs 0.29 ct but do you guys think: 1. I should invest in a GIA report? 2. It's naturally yellow and not heated? 3. what the clarity is? Thanks!

Cool, beautiful yellow color.
Hard to judge clarity from any pic, and that one is out of focus and of low resolution.

Two separate things may be natural or not.
1. It may be mined from the earth or grown in a lab.
2. The color may be as it came from the earth or may be modified in a lab.

So it's possible the material is natural, but the color is not.
GIA labs itself will make the call on both questions.
Jewelry stores and appraisers may not have the equipment or expertise to answer both questions.
GIA labs in NY and California do.
Getting an opinion or professional appraisal from a Graduate Gemologist trained by GIA is NOT the same as a grading report from GIA itself.

You have two choices, a full report at $147 or a short one at $98.
Here's the difference:

http://www.gia.edu/gem-lab-service/colored-diamond

You can send it, or hand deliver it, to GIA yourself.
You don't have to pay a jeweler or appraiser to do this for you.

Look up comps here … www.leibish.com

I know all of that, what I am wondering is would it be worth it for me to invest $100-150 on a stone that may be worth less than that. Upside seems pretty good though based on the comps. How long does a GIA report take?? I'll post the number as soon as I get it back.

What it's worth depends on what it is.
By grading it GIA will tell you exactly what it is with greater authority than anything or anyone else.

Even besides GIA confirming whether those two things are natural they will grade the color and other specs if you get the full report.
What looks like tiny difference to you or I may bump the color into a much more valuable color grade.

Your diamond may be worth quite a bit, and low clarity impacts the price of FCDs less than it does white diamonds.
Here's a 0.34 ct yellow for $6,225.
http://www.leibish.com/yellow-diamond/034ct-fancy-intense-green-yellow-round-vs2-73834-14397
Green Yellow means it has quite a bit of green, likely more than yours.
But even a touch of green may put it into GIA's Greenish Yellow grade, which is much more valuable than pure Yellow.

IMO it is worth getting it graded by GIA.
It will turn a mystery into a certainty … well as certain as possible.
GIA takes weeks to grade a diamond, unless you tell them to rush it, which doubles the fee.
Then there's shipping to wait for and pay for, unless you live close and can walk it in.
Perhaps you are traveling to NY or CA on business or vacation soon.

The way I see it is, you are considering not having GIA grade it, which means you don't need to rush it.

Then there was this 16 yr old kid whom claim he just purchased a Patek Philippe watch for $75K, and when members called him out he then disappeared...

Attention mostly I think.

"Look at me! Look at me and this amazingly rare find I have/this ridiculous sum of money I have to spend on a super rare gem!"

Sad, but it happens. Seems like PS is relatively new to trolls.

I have to say I found the other thread very entertaining.

All this aside, one plus of a doltish troll thinking they can have a field day with PS is the good info that comes out of it. Kenny, your responses were thoughtful and patient - please don't be embarrassed for having been fooled. There is good knowledge in the responses you gave, and just because this individual ( ) won't be needing it, doesn't mean it won't be used by many others. Thanks for taking the time to provide good, solid info to newcomers - whether they are trolls or have really inherited their Grandmum's gem supply. :wavey:

And an interesting aside is the meaning of "proot" in urban slang. Basically a tease. Didn't pick up on the user name before.

So, OP, since you clearly did this with the intention of being caught, are you disappointed with how long it took us to catch on?

Ahem, you seem not to be the only one; on a regular basis, I get the idea my teenagers are sniggering at my failure to see through them...

I think it's time to be on the lookout for a phenomenally lucky poster with a post count of 1.

12 stands for the year I started using psproot12 as a username in 2012. I'm 21, I am not "mohsin96" and I did not make this post to brag about how lucky I am or whatever. I needed honest advice about whether or not I should invest in a GIA report but instead I have to hear a bunch of b.s. I clearly said in my first post that I'm not sure if the color is or isn't natural!

Why do you think I'm that other guy?
