Save it till this time next year and I'll buy it off you! Had you listed it for sale last week, I would have bought it off you now - but instead I went a different direction, so am tapped for the moment. I actually searched for you last week on LoupeTroop in case you had anything listed, but couldn't find anything, and I knew you'd recently retracted some stones you'd had listed last year, so assumed you were just sitting on things for the moment. Seriously, I wish I'd known.

OMG!! I can't believe that!! I feel so bummed!

I think that fact that I keep going back and forth means that I don't really wish to have this stone set. It's more destined to be either sold or traded-in. I really wish I could've been less fickle and left the for sale thread up!!

Thank you though. Maybe it'll still be around as and when you are ready to purchase it.

I can't wait to see what you've bought. Will you put it up in SMTB?

All,

Now that I''ve more or less decided (FINALLY  ) to put this up for sale again, I'd like to ask why there wasn't much interest in this stone when I put it up for sale before? I did have some enquiries and some tentative offers but nothing solid (compared to the J's which got some really serious offers - incidentally the J's are put up for sale again as well. They're going to be listed with Grace; as she's of course a gazillion times more able to handle the sale than I am). Could you please be brutally honest and tell me why my 2.656ct stone didn't attract as much interest? Was it because of the price (the last listed price was $30k I seem to recall, which I honestly thought was very fair) or was it the HI2 clarity (but this is very very clean, Perry even said it's more like an SI1).

If in a few years time (hopefully it won't take a few more years to sell this puppy), it still doesn't sell and IF and when I am ready to buy the larger EC I'd enquire with the vendor at that time, whoever that might be, if they'd consider taking it in.

Hi Phoenix, I have been thinking about a large step cut on and off for a while now as well and have been drooling at a number of Antique ones, it is on my one day list if the right thing comes along.....

I wonder if it would work out better to find a vendor that would take your 2.656 as a trade against something else, so ask Perry, GOG, James Allen, ERD, Brian Gavin and even Victor and other stores if they would take your stone + cash for whatever you seek, that way you don't have to deal with the hassle of selling the diamond you no longer want. One of the members I know did this ages ago via James Allen (traded in a stone that was a similar size to yours that they did not purchase from JA) and purchased a much larger one. Contact all of the vendors and explore all of your options. Goodluck!!!! Can't wait to see what you find.

Hi Phoenix, I think you should hold out for the EC of your dreams and do that whatever way best suits your needs. Don't settle for less because in the long run it might prove a disappointment.

I love arkieb's idea. It would be ideal if a vendor would take it as a fair trade for your stone plus cash. That's what I did with my OEC upgrade (with Adam at OWD) and I felt it was a fair trade considering I didn't buy the original diamond from him. If you find the EC of your dreams perhaps the vendor would work with you in this regard. Good luck and hoping it works out just the way you want it to. :appl:

Hello Missy! :wavey:

First of all, how are you? I hope you're getting some respite and at least get some answers to your condition. I'm sending you loads more get-well dust and hope you'll be on your way to recovery soon.

Back of the 2.656ct yes, I love arkieb's and your idea too. I'll for sure explore that option.

Hi Phoenix! :wavey:
I don't want to threadjack but nothing yet. Just more specialists, more tests and more frustration and pain. And I had even more of a scare this week because they thought I had some terrible disease. Thank goodness that turned out negative (so far). I am hanging tough but I have had to reduce my work week even more and I am fighting to maintain some sense of reality and perspective. Thank you so much for caring.

Back to you now. I don't know why your 2.656 didn't sell first time around. It's a beautiful stone! Good luck with your decision and I hope everything sells quickly for you so you can get whatever your heart desires!

I was umming and ahhing about either trading up in size, or making my stone into a three stone ring. My current stone (in my avatar) is 2.15ct, H SI1, so an H SI stone is definitely my sweet spot - meaning yours would be perfect.

I don't want to go up a whole bunch, and your stone is the perfect size for me, which is why I was looking around LoupeTroop pretty thoroughly to see if I could find your stone! If I could have found any listing for you I had planned to contact you to ask - just on the off chance. Anyway, when I didn't, I went out and bought 2 sizeable side stones to do a big three stone. I wasn't looking for accent stones as such - I wanted a more evenly balanced three stone, so the 2 stones I bought are 1.5ct each - 3cttw - meaning the three stone, when made, will be 5.15cttw. But that leaves me without a solitaire, so I have been looking for a good quality stone, which is why I was looking on LT for you. Phew!

Anyway, I will be following the trajectory of this stone VERY closely between now and next year to see if it hangs around - because if it does - count me in pls!

(ETA) PS - and just to let you know, because I noticed you were asking, I would have paid 30k for that stone, no questions asked and no negotiation needed, in a heartbeat

Oh, no what a heartbreak Mrs. Blop and Phoenix! Could have been a match made in heaven. However, if it's meant to be it will be - we'll all stay tuned!

Can't wait to see your new three stone too Mrs. Blop!

TBH...I think most pre-owned buyers are looking to pay 20-25% off retail . Lets take these 2 BGD stones as examples.

IMO,if the below stone were to be sold in the pre-owned market it would fetch somewhere in the $27,800-$30K range. keep in mind that this is a H SI1 stone.

This one will fetch somewhere b/t $24,500-$26K range.

DF, thanks for your suggestions and comps. I thought that for non-branded goods yeah, a 25-30% discount is the norm. I didn't think and still don't believe that BGD stones would have to be discounted by the same magnitude.

The 2.625ct I Si1 is prob the most comparable to my 2.656ct H Si2 (though I don't have Rap prices readily available), though I really believe (and Perry has commented) that the clarity on my stone is closer to an Si1, as the inclusions are on the edge of the stone and it's very hard to see them even with a loupe. This 2.625ct is $33k vs mine at $30k, so about $10k discount for this branded/ superideal cut diamond, which I thought was fair.

Having said that, I'd be willing to give a small further discount, not a massive one. If anyone is seriously interested, pls let me know and I'll put the for sale thread up in preloved and LT again.

Indeed, your stone look very nice for an SI2 grade... ;)) I don't get it... how did you come up with a $10k discount?

Sorry, TYPO. I meant 10 PER CENT discount

(That'd teach me to post before having my first cup of coffee!)

I think a 10-20% discount on H&A stones is a reasonable expectation. I can't find an exact price comp, but I think BG prices are on the high side in the first place sometimes.

Here is a GOG 2.6 ct H SI1 H&A stone at $34k. This is why I am not sure most people would be jumping to buy a 2.65 H SI2 at $29-30k. That is probably a full retail price and it would be my guess as to why the stone didn't sell easily before.
