Hello everyone,

It's been a while since I've been here. About a year ago you all were nice enough to help me find the best possible diamond engagement ring for my fiance; I can't tell you how appreciative I am. She still loves it to this day.

We are getting married in about three months. Her parents were nice enough to give us a ring to sell to help pay for wedding/honeymoon costs. It's been appraised, and I've also taken it to a local jewelry store (that loved it) but they are so full on commission pieces that they are not taking any more at the moment.

Sorry for the poor quality picture.

I'm looking for advice on the best place to sell it where I can get a fair price, whether they are affiliated with Pricescope or not. If anyone is interested I can post more pictures, details, and the appraisal, but for now I'm just looking for the best advice on how/where to sell it for a fair value.

Thanks so much again!

Hi, it's beautiful :D Do you have any paperwork with it? If not first thing you need to do is send it to a reliable appraiser, there are a number of them listed on here, Dave Atlas is one of the best with antique pieces.

Once you can accurately describe the diamonds in the ring, the colour, clarity and weight then if you want to sell it yourself loupetroop or Diamond bistro are the best places to start and just keep dropping the price until it sells or people will email you and haggle;

or

Or if you do not want to get the paperwork in order yourself and do not wish to sell it privately then Erica or Grace will sell it for you for a commission but they will have a more accurate idea of what it should be selling for, having said that it might take a while via them;

Thanks so much for your response! That's a big help. Here is exactly what the appraiser wrote. Does this seem like enough information so that I don't need to have it appraised again, or is there additional value in having someone the community knows well re-appraise it?

"LADIES ART DECO STYLE PLATINUM RING. The mounting has a large top display that is set with two round diamonds in the center. They are: a 4.2mm x 2.6mm round mine cut diamond with an estimated weight of .27 carats with clarity of Vs and color of H/I; and a 3.9mm x 2.6mm round mine cut diamond with an estimated weight of .25 carats with clarity of Vs and color of H/I. The top is also set with two straight cut baguette diamonds measuring 3mm x 1.75mm with clarity of VS and color of H/I; eight 3.0mm round mine cut diamonds with clarity of VS and color of H/I; and six 2.25mm round mine cut diamonds with clarity of VS and color of H/I. Each shoulder is set with a 2.0mm round brilliant cut and 1.5 mm round brilliant cut diamond, clarity of VS and color of G/H. The total diamond weight in the piece is estimated to be 2.88 carats. 6.5 grams total for the piece."

They then list their appraisal value.

Please let me know what you think!

Hi - does the appraisal say- for retail value or replacement value for insurance?

Then you can search PS for opinions on how much you might hope to get for it percentage wise. How quickly you want to turnaround the item might also have an impact.

I have sold many rings (to fund other projects) and I usually got 50% of the retail value listed on the appraisal (or 33% of the insurance value). This is based on the independent appraisal (not the one the jewelry stores gave me when I purchased) I have been told by jewelers that If I was willing to wait longer, I could've made a higher profit.

This is my own personal experience and other PS'ers might have very different experiences, I have seen many say they often make 70% of the retail value.

hope this helps a little! Good luck!

ps-You can post it here in preloved after you list it somewhere first, I would include a photo of the appraisal including the value, tons of photos and a link to a free site where the listing is-like loupe troupe. good luck!

That seems fine, you need good clear pics, a pic of the appraisal and it should start at around half of what it has appraised for - expect it to sell for around a half to one third roughly, a bit more if it is something highly desirable and a bit less if it is not. Just keep dropping the price until it sells if someone loves it then they will either buy it immediately or haggle with you.
