And ladies, if you have some links, that would be awesome - I'm looking for ideas!

I've always loved colored stones, and I've had a bad habit of buying without giving consideration to setting - but I've been putting money and gold aside, and now it's time to have some of my treasures set.

I have an oval Mahenge that I love - and hope will find a home on my finger, but a fancy sapphire or two, and perhaps a very nice chrysoberyl.

Design is tricky - the whole objective is to wear colours I love, and while I am not ashamed to say I am in touch with my feminine side, I don't want to wear women's jewellery. But my hands are kinda small, so I suspect overly chunky rings will over-power them. :???:

I also like coloured stone pendants (which opens up to some of the more delicate stones), but those don't really wear well with a suit and tie.

Imperial topaz cut by peter torraca in 999 fine silver, somewhat mangled by me having set it, then unset it then re-set it. Paired with tapered three strand twist also of 999 fine silver. In sunlight the stone looks like a yellow diamond!

@ VapidLapid: That's an obvious gent's ring, nothing feminine about it. I wonder if similar results can be achieved with oval stones?

@ FrekeChild: Wow, thanks! I knew there was a thread around, but my search came up empty. I love these:

Will use the above as my personal inspiration (and dream) list. I'd wear that last one more often if I were Barry. ;))

I also like gnarly surfaces, like this one:

I'm liking your taste, Kim, particularly that faux tension set asscher, and Barry's amazing green.

Freke, thanks so much for sharing Barry's rings. :cheeky:

Chrono, I am fascinated by sleepy red spinel ring. The silk in gems is a marvel of nature.

Last one,

10mm Spinel cut by Gene Flanigan, dark grey-blue shifts to Amethyst purple, set in an oxidized Sterling Silver Stuller setting by Jessi Clark of Distinction Jewelry, with melee diamonds.

Jeff Davies is doing a Blue Zircon for me next.

You might also think about gemstone cuff links or tie clips if you often wear a suit.

@ Chrono: Thanks a bunch! Those were exactly the rings I remember seeing a few months back here! I will be going with a different style, and either yellow/rose or white gold. But the stones are gorgeous, and it's nice to see how an oval can be incorporated into a design for a men's ring.

@ ChrisA222: The only one of those that didn't make me go WOW! is the grey one - and that is strictly because I am not fond of grey. I particularly love how the simplicity of the sapphire ring just lets that stupendous blue colour pop!

@ minousbijoux: Thank you kindly! I love the Asscher cut as well, but I always choose colour over cut, and there are only a few shapes I strictly avoid - the pear, which is too feminine for me, the heart, which I find corny, and "gimmicky" shapes (I once saw a blue sapphire cut in the shape of a pair of lips - yikes!).

@ emmmme: The coloured stones will see use whenever I put on a suit, but I rarely do. I feel constricted in suits and tend to only wear one when occasion dictates. A ring with a coloured stone can glam up a dress shirt and a pair of cool jeans considerably, IMO, and that is a form of attire I wear more often. But thanks for the suggestion.

I personally love the red spinel ring for a dude. I also like the green tourmaline as well. I wish I some pics of my fathers rings. He has a star Ruby and a star Kasmir Sapphire that we kids bought him.

Pelegirl,
Your two rings do not look like a man's ring, which is what Kim (who's a guy) is looking for as inspiration. :))

That is so funny. I am a surfer and I call everyone a dude! LOL! I misunderstood his thread! What is the green octogon? I like the look of that one too!
