First time posting, I've found the site so useful in the past, and I'm finally here to ask my own question.

I'm trying to pick out a ring for my fiance (I proposed with something cheap with the plan to upgrade later). We're set on Tiffany's, though we'll likely buy used. The only thing we can't decide on is the setting. For the longest time she had been saying she wanted a yellow gold classic Tiffany setting solitaire ring. I found some in my price range that are ~0.85 carats. Alternatively, she's now become fond of the channel or bead settings in platinum, though for my price range the center stone would be 0.65 carats (this listing included both the e-ring and wedding band). We've gone back and forth on lots of rings, and it's finally come down to these two setting styles, my concern is that she's only a size 3 finger, and I want it to be comfortable and look great proportionally. I'm trying to get her to make up her mind, but in the mean time perhaps some of the knowledgeable users from PS can help me out with advice or opinions?

Re: Knife-edge or channel-set solitaire e-ring for petite fi

I would suggest the slim X-prong channel set from Vatche (style #165). I called them up and asked about the shank width, and it's only 2.5mm at the widest tapering down to 2.3mm at the bottom of the finger. That sounds "thick" considering how delicate some settings are, but my own ring is a Vatche "Grace" with a 2.4mm, and I don't think I would go any thinner than that for longevity. I've attached a picture. The band I'm wearing in the shot is 2.5mm with a .67ct round (5.6mm).

You can see the setting on their site (just put a "D" in front of the name and hit dot com after) by entering "x-prong" or the style number itself, but they have such gorgeous settings you may just want to browse the site.

Good luck with the search!

HI:

Either style would look nice--it is preference.

You mentioned something about "Estate", my only concern is that a channel set ring likely cannot be (safely) sized down to a 3.
