Hey all, I bought these a few weeks ago, for the price I was not expecting anything amazing, I was pleasantly surprised though, they throw more fire and sparkle more than my mothers engagement diamond, that think is pretty much just a giant window though... Both gems are eye clean and I cannot see any windows when viewed head on however when tilted the 0.7 ct stone has a tilt window that is over 1/3 of the stone. They are both very shallow aren't they? Thanks very much in advance.

Matt,
Your assessment sounds spot on with what I would expect. A round brilliant cut will give the best sparkle and with a shallow cut, they will show a tilt window more easily. White sapphires are generally inexpensive. What are your plans for these?

Thank you very much, I am not sure if I should keep searching for one with a better cut. I have struggled finding white sapphires above 3.5mm as it seems in Australia we have less access to stones compared to many other countries. My plan for one of these is to make a ring for myself, it seems pointless to restrict my collection to a drawer where I can only enjoy them at home. I have a photo of the sort if ring that I want but I can't figure out how to upload it.

Oh, I am only in need of one, I only bought the two of them so I could choose which one I prefer. I will try figure out how to upload a photo so I can show you what I am intending on doing.
Thanks very much for those links, however I would feel more comfortable buying within Australia to make it easier if I have to return anything.

Matt

Edit: I am having difficulties uploading the image, this link is pretty close to what I want though, however I will probably go for silver as the stones aren't worth much and I am not a huge fan of the two tone look.

I understand you now. It sounds like you have both stones in hand, and it would be helpful if you can post pictures of the two together. Here are instructions on how to do so:
Post a reply, then click the tab that says "Upload Attachment" further down the page.
Where it says "Filename" click "Browse." From here, go to your own files to navigate to wherever you store your picture.
Double click on the photo you want to upload. The path should appear in the "Filename" blank.
Click "Add the file." Your photo's title will appear under the area where you write.
Click Submit when you're done writing.

Thank you very much! I'm sorry, I don't remember which is which however in the photo with both of them and the smaller coloured sapphires, I believe the 0.75 ct stone is on the left. I will try get some more shots later, do you need hand shots? The power lines are being worked on so I am not able to upload any photos at the minute. Those shots are in sunlight however as the sun was setting, most of the light was entering them from the side and not the table.

I'm afraid those pictures are of little use and hand shots at a more convenient time is much appreciated.

Are these any better? I just took them on my phone in my living room. I couldn't get a good shot of the two of them together, when the 0.70 ct stone moves slightly to the side a few degrees it gets that window.

How long have you been searching? If the tilt window is still very noticeable on the hand, it will remain noticeable once set. I feel bad to dissuade you from both stones but that tilt window is fairly large and would bother me all the time. Doug is also Down Under; he might have something suitable for you.

I had been searching for around 6 weeks before I found those two, I found lots of stones around the 3mm mark however these were the only larger stones I found. I did also try some jewelers, I was ignored mostly in the larger stores and the smaller stones either had not heard of white sapphire or told me I had better have a large budget as they were very rare. The tilt window in the 0.75 ct stone is no where near as noticeable or large as the smaller stone however if you think it would still be a bother I will continue searching. That site only has one sapphire and it is blue, however I will contact them and see if they have anything suitable.
I do also have my eye on a set of 7 stones around 3.1mm each, I could possibly also do something like this if I can't source a single larger stone.

If it doesn't bother you too much, then 0.75 ct white sapphire is clearly the better choice.

I'll continue to search for a better stone however if I cannot find one I will use that one.

I found this while searching today, there are no other photos of it so I have emailed the seller for more photos. The one I am looking at is the 5mm round stone.

I contacted a vendor and they sent me these photos of stones they have for sale currently, I love the largest stone but I feel it might be just slightly too large for me. I have asked for more details on the smaller two.

I also contacted Doug, he doesn't have any available however he said a recut may be possible, I am waiting to hear back from him again.
I am also still tossing up over having one large stone or 7 smaller ones, I have asked the vendor with the three white sapphires if they have a set if smaller ones and I sent some emails to some vendors who have sold some recently.

I'm not sure as I cannot see very clearly (the other stones could be tilted further away) but it appears as though the largest 6.5 mm white sapphire has the best cut. The other two look to have the same large tilt window going on. When it comes to clear or colourless stone, it must be cut almost to perfection or the slightest cut issue will be glaring.

Thanks very much for your advice, I will wait until I get some more information on the smaller two stones, the seller said they don't have windows however if the cut is still not optimal I will continue searching.

I've decided on a sapphire, I have owned it for a while but never really paid it any attention, I bought it as a pale yellow, however I would call it a warm white, I don't notice the yellow until I place it next to a more icy stone. The specs are:
Australian Glen Innes unheated
Eye clean
0.28 carats
3.88mm

It is very sparkly, I don't know what the correct term is, I can't see a window until I tilt it drastically, I really like it. What do you all think?

It is more yellow under incandesent lights, it's harder to get a clear shot of it as well.

It is too far away (too small) for me to see anything. Can you crop the original picture to show just the stone without changing or compressing the file size, then repost it?

This is the best I can do right now, it's very blurry now, I will try see if I can get a better photo in the next few days.

Edit: that didn't work very well, the stones are exactly the same size.

These picture provide a bit more magnification and detail; so far, I think you'll be fine.
