I recently contacted a vendor for this setting (already have my centre stone 9mm antique cushion cut)

image_497.jpg

My only specifics were platinum size 5 3/4, melee 3/4 band - the quote for the setting only came back at US$6200

Is it just me (this is my first quote) or is this a little pricey

Does anyone have any recommendations for me this is too much money for me for the setting alone

Any of the vendors who do hand forged will be more expensive because they are more labor intensive. It takes time to set each one of those diamonds.

If you want a more budget friendly option find a vendor who does CAST options. I think ERD does cast melee very well. I would contact them for a quote. Regardless it will still be high as the ring is a double halo split shank etc= more melee.

Yup for rings with a deep split shank and a double halo I'm pretty sure the "Big Three" (LM, SK, VC) would all be right around 6-7k for that ring.

Top tier makers like SK and Victor Canera will be over $5k for that setting, but they would make outstanding quality ones.

I'd get a quote from Maytal Hannah.

Next level for that setting would be Engagement Rings Direct, and that would be my choice if I couldn't do SK or VC or Maytal. I wouldn't go for anything less than this.

I would bet ERD and HM would both fall in the 3-4k category. I agree with DS that if you are going to do micropave then have it done by someone who can do it well.

Split shank and double halo is not going to be cheap. Just know that your second list of vendors won't be the same quality as SK, LM, VC. They are still great but recognize it's not apples to apples comparison.

JA - don't do custom work unless its their centre also, but were helpful to offer similar rings available from their website

ERD - $3500-3800, they also have a nice "heather" (tiffany legacy) styled setting for appx $3000 which I think will be more wearable day to day...This is a pic of it from their recently sold : image_499.jpg

So now I just have to decide which setting. <sigh - First world problems>

I love that setting from ERD, but check out the link below. It's a custom creation from ERD and its a mix of the Legacy and a Cartier design. So gorg!

I was JUST about to post this. I am in love with this design.

I do think a bezel with that kind of halo is quite sturdy. I had a dead with the same bezel and halo type and I felt like I could do absolutely anything in it. Not the same with the prong set ring I have now.
