My husband and I saw a show last night in Boston and they were incredible (guitar players Rodrigo y Gabriela and a band called CUBA). The opening singer was a guy named Zach Heckendorf. He's really good! He's similar to Jack Johnson and maybe John Mayer, I'd say. We've been listening to a lot of guitarists lately.

Who have you been listening to and/or just discovered?

Watching Leno tonight just reminded me - Beirut. I picked up their new cd from the library last week. Other favorites aren't very mainstream - Shabazz Palaces (Ish from Digable Planets), Dirty Projectors. And some pals, A.A. Bondy, Elvis Perkins, Paul Chesne (his album Wet Dog Man is still my favorite album from the last decade).

Deco, there will never be "another" Purple Rain. Heard it on my way home today and was immediately transported back in time. Sigh.

Mainly, have been blasting the Gotye album in my car, in my office, and at home. It bugs me that 'Someone I used to know' is NOWHERE NEAR the best song on that album! Oh, well, maybe it will get people to buy it and enjoy the other gems that are on it.

softly softly got me going on Tim Minchin. Granted, he's not a musical group, he's a singing/piano playing comedian, but he's got an amazing voice and unreal piano skills--Elton John-ish skills.

I never get sick of the phantom of the opera. Especially the duo of Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess.

Speaking of singing comedians, my husband's been watching tons of old Tom Lehrer videos on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tom+lehrer

Wiki describes him as a satirist, pianist, singer/songwriter, and mathematician, of all things. Some of his stuff is really funny.

We're thinking about going to see Avett Brothers on May 11th at the Patriot Center :)
