Wow. I can't believe that thread is 4 years old.

Just this week my mom told me they had $200 when they arrived. I always figured it was little, but didn't know how much (and who knows if she's remembering accurately). They secured a place to stay, bought some food, and my dad was off to the races (not literally - just went to look for work) to make more money as that took most of it. It blows my mind sometimes what many of the immigrants in this country have achieved.
