Hi, All,
My friend is about to celebrate his 30th wedding anniversary with his wife. Years and years ago when they were first married, they went "gem grubbing" and found a red garnet. He would like to have this stone cut and faceted and then set into a piece of jewelry to present to her on their anniversary. They're in the US, so a cutter within the country would be preferable. Does anyone have a recommendation?
Thanks in advance!

Most of them won't touch other people's rough, but you might try Dan Stair.

It's a lovely idea, though, hopefully someone will do it!

Jerry Newman cuts very well and is one of the few lapidaries who will cut "outside" stones.

A creative alternative is to pick up the next phase of the gem grubbing and take a week holiday at William Holland School of Lapidary Arts here in the Georgia mountains (lapidaryschool.org). If they are still like rock and gem stuff, there are all sorts of classes to take including faceting. He won't be ready to cut it at school, but it picks up where they started 30 years ago :)
