Diamond Stud Questions

Hi, eleven months ago I proposed to my Fiance' with a beautiful diamond ring from Brian Gavin. We are getting married June 25th of this year. Since my Fiance' could never really afford nice jewelry (her studs are cubic zirconia) I have decided to surprise her on the eve of our wedding with some diamond studs. You guys here at PS definitely helped me find the perfect diamond for her engagement ring so I am back asking for help on how to chose studs.

Please help me with some of my questions.

1. How high of a cut do I need to go? I have a budget of $1500 and it appears that each stud will end up being around .3 ct if I go with BG Signature cut. Should I compromise cut for carat? As a note, my Fiance' is definitely appreciates "quality over quantity" so I am thinking that smaller may be better.

2. How small is too small? Are .3 ct each a decent size (I know ct. doesn't necessarily equate to size).

3. Are there any hints or tips you guys may have?

I'd definitely go with signature stones with inexpensive settings so that you can upgrade them later. If she appreciates quality, then this is the way to go, IMO. I think that is such a sweet gift and she will love it! Just keep in mind, though, that she will probably have already decided on other earrings to wear the day of the wedding at that point.

Hmm, I have come across GIA triple ex .91tcw H SI2 studs on ID jewelery website before at around 1300$ set. The stones looked great. I would contact Yekutiel at ID to see what he can do with your budget, unless you are totally set on going with BGD.

Here's a really nice pair of 'I' colored 37 pointers that can be put in a simple setting and look great. With a PS discount and repeat customer discount they should come in right at $1500 in the door.

Thanks for the links and the help. Are those stones a good enough match? We don't get married until the end of June, should I keep checking back with them or jump on something now?

I will look into them but I am pretty set on BGD. I just had such a great experience with them and I feel very comfortable. Combine that with the discounts and they are my first choice.

They're a near perfect match. And with prices headed nowhere but up I'd pounce on them before someone else does.

When we talk about studs, I always recommand to consumer to contact seller and let him find the perfect match for you. They have ton of diamonds and they are able to find 2 beautifuls stones inside your budget. Just my 2 cents.

those look like a good match to me but perhaps call BGD and see what they recommend. I have BGD studs (0.400 and 0.412) and love them :) I think that is a great size!

I saw those last night but we thought you wanted to stay at $1500 including the settings. I'd rather have the G pair personally, but since you eventually may trade up in size, I don't think it really matters. If these are to be the forever pair, then I'd go for the G's.

I wasn't sure what all the discounts would end up being. With the G's, I would be at $1501 (according to my rough estimates).

I have been talking with them all morning via email and they recommend these...
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/diamond-detail/?product_id=AGS-104049771078 PS WIRE $546.25
http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/diamond/diamond-detail/?product_id=AGS-104048050065 PS WIRE $551.00

Jamie looked at them this morning and assured me that they are both eye-clean. Jamie also mentioned that the color difference isn't really worth the $200 difference when it comes to earrings and of all the matching diamonds there, this is probably the best deal within my price range.

You can hardly beat that deal. I agree that with stones that size you'll be fine with the I's! Good for Jamie for looking out for your best interests!

Thanks for the help everyone. You guys definitely take the stress out of diamond shopping!

And it doesn't hurt to have a great vendor like BGD with people like Jamie going the extra step.

You are welcome! It is actually fun to help others since most of us don't have unlimited money to buy something new everyday!!!

And I agree totally with your last sentence! They are great! :appl:

Oh I will definitely get pics! Additionally, I'll have the wedding photographer take glamor shots of the engagement and wedding rings, plus the earrings!

Thanks for all the nice comments. I pick the earrings up tomorrow, hopefully I can just wait a couple more months to give them to her!
