That last Fancy Vivid Blue cushion I posted about a couple weeks ago got away. ;(

Someone bought it minutes before I tried to. Whaaaa.

A GIA VS2 grade is a big plus to me.
I like to keep the clarity up, but it's very hard to do in FCDs since the selection is already so limited.

I want a vivid or intense pure blue to slip into my color wheel between the Grayish Violet and the Greenish Blue.
While 16-pt is small, it's about as dear as I can swing in pure blue with no gray modifier.
Also my 8-point Greenish Blue pear has taught me that small does not mean wimpy when the color is respectable.
Look how well that 8-point pear at the bottom holds up to others that are almost 4 times its weight, even though it is only Intense, not Vivid.

BTW, my little collection has had some additions and subtractions since this pic was taken, and I'll post more pics soon.

Well, you don't have an oval yet so I guess this would make the one right?

Colorwise I like it. It dosen't seem as strongly colored as your others. Those slap you in the face!! this one looks to be a bit mellower.

You know if you keep collecting these you'd have enough to make a really cool guy eternity ring. I can see having one with the shapes and colors in it that would be guylike and not over the top.

It would fit right into your great color array, Kenny. Those certainly do prove size doesn't mean they can't still knock your socks off. I'm impressed you got such a good photo of all those different colors at once, too.

kenny, your other color diamonds are "vivid"....i'm not sure this one qualifies. also to my eye its a bit grey/violet....more subdued than your other ones. still, its not hard on the eyes despite being hard on the bank account!

I don't know Kenny. This stone doesn't PUNCH you in the face like the other fancies you own. However, I think you could be like a cosmetic or paint company and do a shades of Kenny collection. This could be the first stone in the new series. :Up_to_something:

Don't you just hate when someone (possibly a lurker) buys something right out from under you? :| I hate that!

Don't worry, there's another one coming along soon, even better.

The group is just spectacular, Kenny. :cheeky: Gorgeous.

I'm curious, how do you display them? Do you have a light on them? If it were me, I would have a light, a revolving pedestal, a giant neon arrow pointing at them, the works. But I suspect you have something classier. :D

I bought it.
Yes, this will be my first oval.
I also have my eye on a certain Marquise. :Up_to_something:

It appears that it is not the strongest-colored Vivid Blues I've seen but it may just be the pic.
There are just so few of these babies in my size range floating down the river.
If I'm disappointed I'll return it, or maybe keep it till something better floats by, if ever.
It really stinks that these things are so rare.

I was considering putting them into a bracelet, most likely silver.
I'd probably make it myself years in the future after taking some jewelry making courses, and practicing with some of my cheapo Jewelry-TV stones . . .
I'd rather chip off the tips of these babies than my FCDs. ;(

I think the key to capturing good color of all colors is a light tent so the entire environment all around the stones is white.

You may not think that when I post an update of the "kennylection".
There have been changes.

Thanks.
Actually they live in a dark safe deposit box.
But they are now all in one case and arranged in a color wheel rainbow.
They look soooooooooooooooooooo cool together. :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky: :cheeky:

Sounds like the general consensus is that it has too much gray and the blue is not strong enough.
I'll see it in person and take it from there.
A group photo will be the only way to compare it to its siblings since lighting and environment dramatically change the look of FCDs.

I wish the supply of these baby blue boys was not so darn limited. :nono:

Hey Kenny,

From looking at other stones you have had...i think this stone is vivid enough. It looks grey to me. I really miss your vivd blue emerald cut....ahhh that was a thing of beauty. It makes me cry just thinking about it!

I would LOVE to know what you think when you get it. (when are you getting this one anyway??)

Even the violet one you have is a nose puncher. But I can see why you would want to give it a shot. Its quite pretty though a soft little blue boy.

I don't miss his blue emerald cut. :naughty: I still have that photo, the one with the big yellow heart and two blue emeralds, as my computer wallpaper.

I, too, think this is a bit of a grey-blue. Looking forward to seeing how you like it when it arrives. :wavey:

Arcadian, the Vivid Blue should arrive in a couple weeks.
It may not be the most saturated Vivid Blue in the world (it's price would have been even higher if it was ;( ) but I'm expecting it will fit in well with its brothers and sisters.
We'll see.
The size was just right.
It's not too small to hold its own, but not too large to be much more costly.

Thank goodness Leibish is so understanding.
I think I've returned 4 or 5 FCDs now and they never get mad.
Dealing with them really takes the risk out of test driving FCDs. VAROOOM VAROOM!

I find it difficult to be sure about an FCD until I have spent some time with it.
It is kind of like dating. :naughty:
Do you guys find this is also true of non-diamond colored stones, or is it pretty easy to understand what you are getting from pictures, grades and descriptions?

Thanks Sarah.
I miss it too.
I loved that stone.
I would have loved to have kept it, but I want a blue that is in the Intense to Vivid range, and can only afford one tiny pure blue.

I think someone else liked it too.
It is already on Reserve. http://www.fancydiamonds.net/view_diamonds/3718.htm
It is an exquisite FCD, you just don't find that strong blue in a 12-point, especially in an emerald cut which does not amplify the color strength.
That had to be some screaming rough.
I'm hoping a PSer grabbed it.

Well kenny I think you're going to get a lot of different answers in that area!

I personally don't love everything that I buy upon sight. I have to spend some time with some stones to know if I will like them or not. That happened with my first hot pink spinel...I wasn't for sure if I really wanted to keep it, but after about a week, I came around to it. Even some of my later purchases I didn't really love them until AFTER they were set...which in some cases that could take months!

My perspective is this;

If you open the envelope and say "what the hell is this?" don't keep it, send it back.

If you open the envelope and says "hm... its kinda cute" Then check it out. See how it performs and if it dosen't perform to your expectations, send it back. If it performs and you're still thinking "hmm kinda cute, I'll keep it since it won't break that bank" then sure keep it. You may love it later on and then again, you may want to trade it!

If you break out into a hot sweat after opening the envelope and seeing it, well yeah, thats a keeper!

Stones are like people. They totally give off vibes. Some I had a burning love for since I purchased them, but some were growers.

I don't ever get my hopes raised until I've got the gem/diamond in my hands so I can see it for myself. I've found that descriptions and photos are helpful but very often don't meet my expectations. I've been trying to buy a certain gem in a certain colourway now for about a year and despite thinking I had got "the one" on order, when it arrived I could have cried. I don't buy as much as I once did but I've found that I'm far less forgiving and won't accept something that isn't true love on the moment of opening the package. It has to scream at me to keep it otherwise it's a waste of money. Having said that, I've bought one or two stones in the past that have been a slow burning like and I'm glad I didn't return those, but in all honesty, they're few and far between.

You're looking at a specialist market and even though the photos from Leibish are very close to real life (and of course most have GIA reports), that doesn't mean that you will love the diamonds - and so I can fully understand why you've returned some. Personally, the new diamond you've linked to doesn't have punch like some of your others but I don't know what you've kept/sent back so I can't gauge whether it'll compliment your collection or not. What I do know is that the great ones get snatched up before you can draw a breath so you're definitely doing the right thing by not hesitating when you see something that catches your eye.

Kenny -- I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your diamond collection, and I do like this blue stone a lot. I have to admit that I don't know much about fancy colored diamonds, but in terms of color, I love the ones you have.

$2,300 for an 0.11 ct Fancy Dark Gray. :-o :-o :-o

How in the world can a such tiny gray cost $2,300?

That's a weird looking diamond. I see grey, purple, a bit of pink, peach, brown - don't think it really knows what it is!!! I don't know if I like it or not :errrr:

That's a really odd looking FCD but who knows if it'll look better with some light shining on it IRL...

Yeah that would be the one  But I LUV EET!!!     I wish it were bigger, but of course It would be out of my price range given the amount of the stone.

LD, I think it caught my eye because its not just a straight gray. It certainly looks like it would be interesting for sure. I can see it set into something ultra modern, with an 18K bezel and plat. body. I'm not normal

I can't figure out why its so expensive either Kenny. but then again I'm not that knowledgeable about color diamonds (but I apparently have expensive taste in them!)

Yeah, I also have a lot to learn about FCDs.
I suspect collectors with the budget want one of each color that comes out of the earth and this must be an unusually fine gray.
Perhaps having no hue modifiers in that strength of gray is rare.

I also don't yet understand the appeal of Fancy White FCDs.
They just look terribly cloudy or milky to me but again it must be the desire to own one of every example.
Perhaps they look cool in person when the diamond can perform its unique light show.

That looks suspiciously like an over-blue diamond. Very strong fluor can cause this look and I certainly wouldn't call it a Fancy diamond but hey, what do I know!?

I think it's too dark, and a diamond should have sparkle. This one may not, aside from the fact it's a cushion and it appears to look deep in cut.
