Is polish grade normally reduced after setting?

Hi All - If you have a diamond with excellent polish that you then have mounted in prongs, will the setting process itself have any effect on the polish grade if removed and re-graded? I've seen several rings where the inside of the prong head looks a bit scratched or unpolished and wondered if the pressure exerted on the diamond during setting with rough prongs would cause the polish grade to decline. Thanks

Hello,

Given the extreme hardness of diamond (and by hardness I mean resistance to scratching) the polish should not be affected by the metal of the setting not matter how rough it is. Remember that the only way to polish a diamond is with another diamond because it is so hard.
