I need your help and it''s getting near crunch time! I have three diamonds to choose from but want the opinion of a more informed collective. I’ll make one statement: I am more concerned with diamond quality than price (within reason).

Table 56.1%
Crown Angle: 14.5
Crown Height: 14.5%
Pavil Angle: 40.7
Pavil Depth: 43.1%
Culet: .2%
Girdle: 1.8%

416.7K

Diamond 2:
Carat: 1.773ct
Color: G
Clarity: VVS2
Symmetry/Polish: ID/ID
Fluorescence: Negligible
Diameter: 7.71 x 7.76 x 4.77m
Depth: 62.1%
Table 56%
Crown Angle: 34.4
Crown Height: 14.9%
Pavil Angle: 41.1
Pavil Depth: 43.3%
Culet: Pointed
Girdle: 1.0 to 1.09%
Cert: AGS
$18.3K

Diamond 3:
Carat: 1.71ct

Fluorescence: None
Depth: 62.2%
Table: 55%
Crown Angle: 34.5
Crown Height: 15.7%
Pavillion Angle: 40.7
Pavil Depth: 43%
Culet size - .3%

Well, I'd drop #2 right off, just because I don't like the 41.1 pavilion angle quite as much, it doesn't score as well on the HCA, and it's more $$. I'm not sure that #1 falls into the AGS ideal range, though it does score nicely on the HCA. I think I'd personally go with #3 because I like slightly steeper crown angles (I think there's an entry error w/#1, but from the percentage I'm guessing it's shallower), it scores well on the HCA, and it's an AGS0 cut. Hope that helps!

Pavil Angle: 40.7

Are you completely set on getting something in the VVS range?

No, it does not have to be VVS - I am open to VS1 and VS2 as well. Clarity is actually of less importance to me than Cut, Color and Carat.

Then, I would suggest dropping your clarity to a VS stone & maybe even consider an SI1 & save quite a bit of money w/o sacrificing much beauty.

I'm no expert, but that was my thought too.

If you drop clarity you can get a bigger stone like this:

1.91 G VS2 H&A 0.5HCA for $18.3K

2.03 G SI1 H&A for $17.7K

I also like the looks of stone #3. I personally wouldn't pay more for VVS clarity. The same vendor listing that stone also has a 1.77 D SI1 . . . have you considered that stone? If it's eye clean, I'd take an icy white D color any day over a G . . .

Thanks for the feedback! Okay, a new contender in the mix:

1.76 G VS1

7.76 (7.72-7.77) x 4.80
Depth: 61.9
Table: 55.7
Crown: 35.5 (15.7%)
Pavillion: 40.6 (42.8%)
Girdle: .8%-1.7% (thin to medium)
Fluoresence: None
Culet .9

What do you think?
