I am currently starting my search for a diamond to propose with. I have been doing some research for a while now and feel that I have improved my knowledge considerably. The problem is that there is so much to know that I easily get overwhelmed. I am looking at a couple of stones right now and I am open to any suggestions from the good folks here on this site. My overall idea is to have a ring similar to Tiffany''s Lucida when I am done. I know that D.Vatche makes a setting very close if not identical to the Lucida, but I need a good stone. I am looking at a box radiant and a princess, but as I said, I am open. Here are the two stones.

#1 Radiant

Depth: 64.8
Table: 64.2

Polish: Very GOOD
Symmetry: GOOD
Fluorescence: NONE
Crown Angle: 32.5
Crown Height: 11.6
Pavil. Angle: 45.8
Pavil. Depth: 52

#2 Princess
Carat: 0.64
Clarity: VVS1
Color: G
Measurements: 4.95 x 4.52 x 3.52
Depth: 77.9
Table: 57
Girdle: SLIGHTLY THICK TO THICK
Culet: NONE
Polish: GOOD
Symmetry: GOOD
Fluorescence: NONE
Crown Angle: 36.2
Crown Height: 14.3
Pavil. Angle: 58.3
Pavil. Depth: 59.5
Price: 2700

Let me know what you folks think and feel free to make suggestions as to where I should look. I would appreciate any help you all can offer.

Hi!!!! By the numbers, I would say that is ONE nasty lookin princess

77 depth is WAY DEEP and the table is WAY small in comparison

But have you seen it? Do you like it? It's SO much smaller than the radiant...so you are paying for a smalll stone for its carat weight...

However, that looks like it could be a very tasty radiant!I would say definitely give the radiant a go!!!

Also, I know this is a hot topic here now, but don't spend the money for a designer setting...I would try to find a similar one and save the $ !!!

Thanks everyone for the insight so far, I will look into your suggestions. Like I said I am not set on any particular stone. To answer one of the replys, I have not seen the princess and by the sounds of it I probably do not want to. I had thought it might be too deep, but as I said in the first post I am far from and expert. I hope to hear more from everyone.

diamonds: Ideally, I like to kind of stay around 72 or 73 for depth...there are exceptions if the stone is awesome...but I like to avoid any deeper b/c you are losing too much size at that point. Happy hunting!

One other site you might want to check out is DBOF. They have some BEAUTIFUL stones! I purchased my stone from White Flash and couldn't be happier, but a site known for their princess cut is the one I've provided. Also, I think GOG is a GREAT site as they offer a lot of visuals to really help you see what you're getting.

After seeing all the suggestions that you all have posted, I think that I am going to definitely take some more time and really search around. I like some the stones that MMM has suggested. I may reconsider the setting as well, but I am not sure about that. I personally love the x-prong's appearence, but I may look for something with an antique look to it. I know that my girlfriend loves antique looking rings so maybe I will look more into that. If I do go that route, can anyone suggest a good cut/setting combination? Thanks again for the help.
