Just heard my Bonus got approved - wooohooo!!!!!

so I have lots to spend on a Tsavorite although I would like to keep it around the $3000-$3500 mark if I can, but I will go $5k+ if I have to (dont ya just love "end of project" bonuses

)

Really dont care about the size or shape other than I dont want a heart shaped stone and I dont want a honkingly huge stone. 2 - 3ct is more than enough (or maybe 3.5?). My finger size is 6.5-6.75

So help me out - and help me spend my $5k

Go on, Live vicariously!

what "WOW" stone would you buy with that budget?

Multicolour has some in that category:

http://www.multicolour.com/detail/?/details/single/tsavorite/ts10186aa/&930512007

http://www.multicolour.com/detail/?/details/single/tsavorite/ts1426ab/&930512007

or something a little cheaper...

http://www.multicolour.com/detail/?/details/single/tsavorite/xgg147af/&930512007

...but maybe combined with these for earrings with the extra cash

http://www.multicolour.com/detail/?/details/pair/tsavorite/ygg348am/&930512007

P. S. I know the oval single and a pair are not exactly a good color match, but I was just trying to find a way to mention that nice pair

My just over 2 carats tsavorite was $3500, so if you''re willing to go up to 5k you might be able to head toward that 3 ct mark! Of course, that also depends on your preferences re: quality, color!, clarity, etc. If you prefer the "less desired" colors, you can certainly go bigger.

High quality tsav in that size range is quite rare, so you may be in for a search (but that is a large part of the fun, right?!)

Thanks Mr Ma Re.
Liking the second stone (as you know I have a weakness for long skinny stones, so thats a definate possiblity and the colour is nice as well)

I think I definately like a bluer tone, (which your second stone seems to have or at least on my screen) rather than the yellow or "pure" green.

Great start to my search

Just for my info. Which one would you buy?

I might contact Swala Gem Traders, they might have something in the 2-3 ct size range, and from what I''ve seen on PS of their stones, they have some lovely tsavs!

MAC- Blue secondary? You have good, but expensive taste!

That first cushion looks kind of olive-colored to me, despite their claim of medium-dark green. I like the pear better, but it definitely has a window and would not be a stone that I would choose for myself.

Hi Icekid

have you got a link to your Tsav? Where did you get it from?

My job is Assurance Engineering therefore quality is a big factor in my life. If I had to put it in order it would probably be (Absolutely No 1) Colour, then a very close call between clarity & cut although I do have a bit of a mental blockage with clarity. It absolutely has to be eye clean and preferably loupe clean although I could live with not loupe clean.

I would rather have a 2ct great colour eye clean stone than a 3ct ''meh'' colour or not eye clean stone.

Cut-wise - its important but not so much as colour or prob even clarity. Thats assuming the stone doesnt have a honkingly huge window or such, then cut becomes a major factor

LOL dont want much do I? Just fabulous colour, good clarity and good cut -should be easy LOL (oh if only)

See, that's exactly why I need help. I didnt even see a window in that second stone. And thats about the 6th or 7th time I've looked at a stone thats been posted and thought "Nice" then someone else has come along and said about windows. I'm thinking I just cant see windows

So if you were buying a stone for yourself, which stone (from any site) would you buy?

LOL hubby would definately agree with you about the "expensive taste" . I prefer to think of it as "quality"

ETA: LOL, just realised in my last post I was talking about huge windows, and then you come back and say the stone I like from Ma Re's post has a window! I definately need help - how do you fancy being my personal shopper?

..I would second MTG about swala..seems as if they have the nicest tsav''s..can''t beat owning your own tsavorite mine... means you have high quality material for fair prices..that stone doesn''t have a window..they use good on site cutters with good machines..it says top of the crop..pure green

Of the three I posted, probably the cushion, but I''m not exactly a green color type, so I''d probably get something totally different. Regarding the stone you found from Swala, it''s very nice IMO and I don''t see any issues with it. Not my personal cup of tea (I''m more into deep, saturated emeralds or nothing at all when it comes to greens...so it''s nothing at all), but it''s your taste that counts. And since you have a hard time understanding some technical terms, which you really should understand prior to buying such expensive gems (for your own safety and comfort of shopping), maybe you should read this great article we often recommend to people: http://www.palagems.com/quality_4cs.htm
Of course, also remember that such quality items should always come with the certificate, no matter how reputable and honest the vendor is (cause he probably didn''t dig it out of the ground himself...).

P. S. Tell hubby he should be happy about your taste for quality, that''s why you chose him...
9.gif
I guarantee he''ll never have an issue with your taste again

can I have comments on this stone http://www.swalagemtraders.com/search-gems/detail.php?pid=2165?

Most especially, does it have a window?
It may be from the parcel that mine and LD''s came from (they''re pretty darn eletric stones!!) If you''re particular about the oval, I would talk to Eric about it and you can always ask for an additional picture of the stone. You could also look at this one

http://www.swalagemtraders.com/search-gems/detail.php?pid=2167

I''d ask for an additional for this one too.

If you''re not seeing anything in your size range you can always ask. They may have something thats not on the website from that same parcel of stones.

MAC-W, congrats!

With a budget like that, why not go to the top of the line?

Give Bruce an an email or a call with your specs.

I met Bruce at the Tucson Gem Show in February and I looked at about every tsav dealer''s booth there. He is a very polite person and will readily discuss tsavorites with you.

Bridges Tsavorite had the best, assuming what you seek is the classic tsavorite. They were all pretty well cut too.

Mac,
Congratulations on the bonus and the Tsavorite-to-be! If I may, here are two points: 1. The blue in a blue-Green Tsavorite is pretty subtle; and 2. Tsavorite, being a Type II gem, shouldn''t be expected to be loupe clean (I''m glad that you''re okay with that).

AmethystGuy,
Swala no longer operates a Tsavorite mine, FYI.

Thanks everyone.

I''ve sent a message off to Swala Gems to get some more photos and also find out what other stones / rough they have available and also one to Bridges Tsavorite, so I just have to be patient now and see what comes back.

LOL Mr Ma Re - I''ve tried using comments like that on hubby before, but it doesnt work - he''s wise to my ways!!!

MAC,
Tell him that they are portable assets. Mine came up with that notion and increased my budget!
