Hi pricescope!

I need your help in choosing a princess cut diamond for my girlfriend. I''ve been reading the forum and doing some research, but I would greatly appreciate your advice.

My budget is around $12K. My girlfriend has a 3.75 ring size. So I was thinking of finding a diamond around 1.5 carats (bigger the better tho). I would like an ideal cut, G - I color and VS2 - SI for clarity.

Any suggestions on what specifications I should focus on with my budget? Can you help me locate one?

Once again, thank you for all your help.

You might regard this one as a safety...

This one slightly beyond what you''d prefer to pay, but an option...

and make an effort to further trying to nail it.

The search by cut shows other larger options closer to your price point, but they are certified by GIA, but regarded as "expert selection from WF." It''s possible they would represent a more optimal: size/price/look combination. Also, Blue Nile and Exceldiamonds are other directions to check out...not to mention...Infinity.

The ones I found, I found here on the search by cut utility.

Regards,

Sticking with curtain #2, please.

Your BN option...per the general wisdom of this board...you have no good basis for judging performance...except BN's statement it is signature.

Regards,

P.S. Hopefully others will pipe in, too. BTW...should I presume you've checked for infinity and excel options? GoG's option will cover you, but you're not stretching to your original budget, is all...

Edited to add...for example...you may well want to consider this one. Feel free to ignore Blue Nile's own ranking system...which does not serve them well.

or

again...add a cruise with your diamond and see this one...

dko683 - what sort of setting are you looking for? I assume $12k includes the setting? If so, what sort of budget are you thinking about for the diamond?

The Good Old Gold stone is an AGS0 Ideal cut so I''d definitely go for that one. A 1.5 ct will look wonderful on your gf''s tiny 3.75 fingers!

I would also add that everyone on here will tell you that you can''t judge a princess cut by the numbers alone and that an Idealscope and ASET are a MUST. Whiteflash ACA princess cuts and GOG offer both right on their website. I didn''t see any ACA''s on WF''s website in your budget but if you call them they''ll find some stones for you to look at.

If you work with another online vendor just be sure to ask for an ASET/Idealscope and post them here if you''re not sure what you''re looking for!

Good luck!

I pick GoodOldGold because I like their diamonds and them. They have a great lifetime trade up policy. That particular diamond looks like a beauty and nice price!

here''s a few I found. it might help to check out this chart. crown height is important for the sparkle/fire of the diamond. i''d try to stay within the table/depth ranges as well. not to mention you want to check out the dimensions b/c that''s how big the diamond will appear! Good luck!

My advice would probably try to stay in G in color unless you go over 1.5, otherwise it might be less white. You want a good cut, but you dont want a yellow diamond so id stay away from I. I heard if you get a little flourescence though it could make it appear whiter. SI1 should be cool i think depending upon where the inclusions are, especially cause the bigger the carat the rarer the VS''s and more $$$$. There''s plenty of princesses so you should be able to find a good cut diamond....i wouldnt worry about that cut above stuff too much unless you want to pay more for something that might not even matter.

i just went through this so thought id try to help, im not a jeweler or diamond expert by any means though!! Also I went through WF and they were really helpful but im sure the others are as well.

here''s the chart that is pretty helpful.

Here are some that might be good options. i kind of like the second one down, the 275811. the first still might be decent. you also want to get sarins so you can see the crown height and pavillion angles. you can get ideal scopes and aset images as well to see how it reflects light and leakage. hope this helps.

Food for thought...

(AGS is not "parametric," and uses data taken "whole," as I understand it).
