Where do you look for clasps and other findings?

Pearl vendors have a limited selection of clasps, pendant and earring settings, etc. on their websites. I'm interested in looking for different options for variety or something really special. I've already looked at KGH, Bella Findings, and Rio Grande.

What vendors do you use (or at least look at) for findings?

For something really special, I use a local jewelry designer. I have two award winning designers local to me where I love everything that they do. That gives me confidence to let them do their thing, and I know it will be special and that I will love it. Both of them have small boutique shops, and we also have some great young talent that I've gotten to know who work the local craft fair circuits. Most of them used to work for one or the other of the top designers and are striking out on their own.

What I generally do is get the pearl, and then decide if it is going to get a stock setting, or if it is worthy of something special. Right now I'm mulling over who will be working on my SoC mabes. Those pearls are worth a unique treatment.

I have to think that are some great talents in your area. It's worth taking the time to find them and to build up a relationship. It would be great for you to throw some business their way to keep them around. :))

Other than the answers already given, I don't know of any others. If you want something special, one option is to work with Takayas Mizuno http://takayascustomjewelry.com/artist.html . He made Hisano's color shift metallic FW ring. Takayas also made the gold setting for my husband's abalone pendant.

Lovely pendant, thanks for sharing!

I may pay him a visit when I come to LA for the Ruckus in 2016.

When the time is right, I shall look for a jewellery to make one or two interchangeable pearl clasps for me, so that they can accept up to 3 strands of pearls. Hopefully Anna Tabakhova of Cliclasp fame would be able to help me or point me in the right direction.

Got a 17mm approx. round Danburite lined up for this project already, to be cut by Jeff White next year.

May use my mum's set of ruby cabochons to make the second clasp, if she lets me have them. :naughty:

Hisano's friend Takayas Mizuno made the custom bale for my souffe/greenakoya/fireball pendant and custom made the diamond by the yard necklace for my cherry Tahitian anniversary pendant. We couldn't find a all yellow gold necklace let alone one with diamonds that would coordinate with the bale diamonds. He used some of my diamonds and I purchased some. He is great.

Thanks! We would love to meet you. Hopefully we can make it in 2016. We were talking about the next ruckus at dinner last night. My son and daughter attended two of them. They like The Scotch Master, Chris, a lot. Now that DS is 21 he looks forward to Scotch tasting next year.

Kay, Takayas may not be local to you but he's only a few hours away. We got pictures of the wax mold too. Hisano was the liaison at the time he made my husband's gold setting. We had the pleasure of meeting him in person at J & H's wedding last year.

NacreLover, lovely setting. I saw it IRL at PP office on Ruckus Sunday. I didn't know Takayas made both of your pendants. Thanks for sharing.

HHPmom. He didn't make the pendants. He made the diamond by the yard chain for my Cherry Pendant Hisano made and the custom bale for the pendant Hisano made. Right now he's modifying it for a specific two tone rope chain I will wear it on. I really like all the services they are able to offer.

I had a local designer I used for a few custom pieces. He did beautiful work at reasonable prices. Sadly, his shop went out of business during the downturn. I have not found anyone new here yet.

Flygirl,

Are you in Minneapolis? If so, I'd love to get info on your jeweler. I'm just north of North Dakota, so we travel to the twin cities on occasion.

cmd2014 - Yes, two of my favorite local designer/jewelers are T Lee and S Vincent. Each has a small boutique that would be worth a visit, but most of their work is custom. Don't come on a Monday. :))

And, if you can time it for the first Thursday of the month, the Northrup King building is chock full of artists, including those up and coming designers I was alluding to.
