Somebody feel free to tell me that I am reading too much into this:

So on Tuesday night he told me to keep New Years'' Day open because one of his friends is having a dress-up brunch party on a yacht. So I asked him to forward the email or invite and he says that there isn''t one--his friend told him over the phone. All of our friends do everything over email--so this is suspicious to me. He has also told me quite a few times not to get to drunk on NYE, and that he doesn''t want people over at our house on NYE for an after party because he wants our house to be clean....Then, last night out of nowhere he asks me what my favorite current "dress-up" outfit is--is he going to pack a bag for me? It was totally random. Also, last night AND this morning he asked me about my dad''s travel plans...my dad travels a lot and my BF hardly ever asks about it; it was like he was trying to pin down exactly when my dad is in town.

So all these things do add up but I think it''s too soon--we were talking Feb/early March before...but then if you see above, I think he has the stone and is trying to throw me off about how for along he is with the ring. I haven''t told anyone about this bc I don''t want to get my hopes up and then have it not happen, so PS is the only place I can share this!! The only reason why I won''t be too disappointed is that I wanted to lose 10 lbs or so before being engaged so I can try wedding dresses on immediately--so a few more weeks would be nice! Image

Tessari, That sounds VERY suspicious to me! Image It''s so funny that men think that after dating them for years that we won''t notice when they do and say unusual things!

For example, a few months ago, I was helping SO organize/clean his place. Out of the blue, he says, "Wow, look how good I am about letting you go through all of my stuff. I mean, what if I had a ring hidden somewhere?" Um, we were talking about filing, and we DON''T talk about rings like that... Then, moments later. "Oh, hey, don''t clean my closet though..." Image

A+B = you have a ring hiding in your closet. Good job! Image (I didn''t look for 5 months, but yes, it is in fact there, lol!)

Savvy, he does seem to be feeling the holiday spirit! I hope he is trying to throw you off! If he does the ring thing again, tell him you don''t want to be friends unless he is going to play nice! Image

J-in-B, out of the blue talk is ALWAYS suspicious in my opinion, because it''s clearly what is on your mind! Image I love that your family seems in on it! Yay for the holidays!

Tessari, he is totally up to something. I wouldn''t read too much into the email invite thing, but I think asking about your favorite dress-up outfit and dad''s travel plans is very obvious - men normally could care less. Yes, he is being sneaky about something!

Well now I do think I have more time after all. He talks about the engagement ALL the time, he''s always bringing it up. So today we were talking about how much to spend on each other''s gifts and he said to keep in mind that soon he''ll be getting me a very expensive gift...then he went on to say that everytime he thinks about it his heart starts pounding bc he''s scared of messing up the ring and that there''s so little he understands and he doesn''t know where to start. So that makes me think that he''s far from it, despite other clues. Gaaah! Then sometimes he says he has it all planned out and has picked the date, then he askes me if I have any idea of when/where/how I want to be proposed to bc he needs some tips. gaaaaahhh!

I think some men enjoy the torture-aspect of the process. I''m just going ignore his stupid mind-games.

Tessari, Its sounds as if he's loving the torture process!!!  What a meany Image

KCCutie - I don''t mean to play devil''s advocate b/c I love to get excited about things in this thread, but is it possible that he was getting you a Christmas gift and didn''t want you to know what he got? If no, then you may be on to something!

Another question - if you don''t mind my asking, I am assuming you are in the KC area? I lived there my whole life, graduated from KU, and am now working in another city 2 hours away.

Hey another KCite! YAY! Yep I''m here in KC I''ve lived here most of my life.

Of course it''s totally possible he just bought me a regular gift, which is also very sweet of him so I can''t be that upset, but wouldn''t it just be amazing if he had been ring shopping?Image

Sounds like our guys are up to something. Good luck to all of us!

Yesterday I was making a comment about how I don't feel I am a part of BF's 'work family' (they all see themselves as one big family, including SOs). He said "Of course you are! You're a wife! Uhm... and girlfriend."

EDIT: Also, now that I think about it, just recently he also said something about hoping his mom will find someone soon. Since he (BF) is moving towards a different stage in his life and won't be able to do a lot of stuff for/with her anymore.

Interesting.

So I teased him about how did he find out about my marriage and please don't tell my husband. He wasn't in the mood for a humorous comment though and just said "Uhm, yeah, sorry!"

I was at a birthday party on saturday and saw a college friend who knows my SO''s cousin.  So I went over to him, gave a hug, and he goes, "Congratulations! The cousin told me, That''s so exciting.  I''m so happy for you!"

He already knew SO and I were dating, so I can only think....ooops...

So.. there is finally some movement on the previously silent front. We had a little chat about his finances and it turned into a timeline talk, and he said he wants to propose early 2009, like January or February!  And I know for a fact that today he called the jeweler he plans to use to have the ring made! No wonder he sounded so goofy on the phone today.

ps congrats on all the recent proposals, it''s so exciting to see a new announcement every time I check this place out!!

LMBO!!! That is SOOO funny!! I actually laughed out loud. Guys really are too cute sometimes!!

For all of you that are waiting, I''m sprinkling TONS OF DUST on you!! :) I can''t wait to hear your updates...of course, I just read this thread through its entirity so have no idea if there are other threads announcing engagements!! I''ll have to go look!!! :)

PS It''s Christmas Eve!! OOOH!!!! So close if a holiday proposal is in the works!! :) And, I''ll just give a short story of me last year...

Every year I go to FIs family''s for Christmas Eve and Christmas because my family lives far away and I''m not close with them (emotionally). So last Christmas, we were all exchanging gifts and then my FI (then BF) came over to my side of the room and got something from behind the chair I was sitting in and then handed it to me. It was a bag from a jewelry store and my heart started to POUND and my face got all hot and I could barely breathe as I opened everything. Can I just say THANK GOD it was (just) a diamond journey necklace!?!! Unlike you all, I DID NOT want a proposal in front of a whole lot of people, etc. As I took it out of the box and held it up and asked him to put it on me, my hands were shaking and I told him I was afraid he was going to propose. LOL!!!! (Fast forward to 5 months later when he DID propose, in Disney World, in private (as in, no one I knew was around, although LOTS of people were there), and my hands were shaking again, my face was hot, my heart was pounding, and I could barely breathe!! LOL

Ok... my holiday update.  No bling.  Wasn''t really expecting any, so no biggie.  Anyway, SO and I spent our first X-mas together this year! Image  Despite my family being insane, we had a lot of fun the whole time.  I did a lot of cooking, and SO hung out with my sibs, and everyone was enjoying themselves.  SO had been sleeping in everyday, and I usually had to DRAG him out of bed.  This morning, SO wakes up, immediately asks my sister the time, and jumps up and goes upstairs.  He disappeared, but he could have been showering or talking to his fam since he was flying home today.  Anyway, my dad is missing too.  Image  I didn''t see them together, so I couldn''t really pin anything down.  Then, when I was about to take SO to the airport, we were trying to figure out which cars had gas.  SO and I went to the video store last night, and the car was on E with the gas light on, and we got back home after 11pm.  No one else used the car. Before we left for the airport, I said, "Oh, the Escape is on E".  SO says, "No, your dad filled it up this morning."  Nobody knew this, except he and my dad.  Image  Men are NOT sneaky!  A little drive around the block with my dad?  Interesting...

I hope you ladies had a great Christmas!

I am spending the holidays with my family, so I still have no idea what BF''s super-secret errand was. We decided to exchange gifts on New Year''s Day, which we will make ''our'' Christmas.

Meanwhile, my cousins have been asking when they can come visit us. I''ve been postponing this for two years now and feel bad about it. So before visiting them, I asked BF if he would be ok with it if I invited them for next year. He gave me the ''go ahead''.

My cousins were very thrilled and tried to book a flight for the summer immediately. Later, when I told BF on the phone, he suddenly freaked out and told me to tell them not to book YET. Boy, was he upset! I told him I promised June and they want to book ASAP (turned out neither of them has a credit card, so they will have to wait a few weeks).
I swear I could hear him sweating in distress over the phone.
''Tell them not to book before you are back and we had a chance to talk!''
So I asked him what''s wrong.
He said ''Uh..., I need to check my calender first!'' *yeah, right*
Me: ''You already have plans for June in your calender?''
Him: ''Yeah, we just got our work calender''
Me: ''But even if you have to work on some of these days...''
Him (almost yelling now): ''NO! Trust me! Don''t do anything before we talked! Trust me!''
Me: ''Are you kicking me out next summer?''
Him: ''What? No! Are you kidding me? I can''t wait for you to come back! You must never leave!''

Oh well. Everybody I told about this said instantly that maybe he doesn''t want them to book before we set a date... I don''t want to jinx myself, so I am not saying it out loud (writing doesn''t count). I will just anticipate a very interesting conversation with BF. Image

I just got a voicemail from my mom saying, "can you have B call me?" so he went in the bedroom and called her and they talked about 10 minutes. After 3+ years of dating, they have only ever talked on the phone maybe once? They''ve seen each other less than half a dozen times (she lives across the country.) Anyway, when he came out, he couldn''t tell me what they talked about. He was smiling big, though.

It really could be about anything, I guess - though, my birthday isn''t coming up, Christmas is done, and no other big events are in the near future.

So, no clue!

I don''t think I mentioned this last week but anyway....

Last week S and I were out and about driving somewhere to go shopping. We go past a custom jeweler and he asks me "So....what exactly is custom jewelry? Because aren''t certain designed rings patented? How could they copy that?" I answered him...

Saturday night we are leaving from eating out and he notices another custom jeweler. I didn''t see it. So he asks me again about patented rings..."I caught you red handed! Are you planning on copying a design?" lol! He said no not at all- but he didn''t understand how they can copy stuff if it really shouldn''t be copied. So I had to explain it to him again. Meanwhile, he still claims he would get the real thing Image

WOW Trillionaire you too! Very cool! Hope you had fun at P&L!

Okay I still have no idea what he was up to. My gift from him was a really nice Bulova watch with some serious bling!Image It''s so sweet b/c I needed a new watch but I can''t wear it until I get a few links taken out. However I know he bought it at a store near Oak Park Mall b/c that''s where we need to take it to have the links out. So I''m still confused as to what he bought when he drove all the way to Legends and saw his old friends. Oh he also said the store where he bought my watch had "nice watched but their diamonds are not GIA" and he wasn''t impressedImage. So at least he did look at diamonds while he was there. Image

Congratulations to all holiday engaged couples!!!!

SO has really been turning on the hints recently.

*He told me that he shared with his family on Sunday how he plans to propose!!!!  He is so excited Image Image
*He went "shopping" with his sister and they had a nice chat about marriage.  He told me she looks forward to having me as her sister-in-law, so sweet!

Some of his recent quotes:
"So, would you be upset if a clown proposed to you on my behalf tomorrow?"
"Would you prefer I get down on one knee or not?"
"How would you like me to ask you?  Something more formal or the question in my own words?"
"A proposal will happen sooner than you think, but not as soon as you''d like...because that would''ve happened a year ago Image"

I''m really excited!  Image

My SO called me yesterday and I was sort of tired. I usually ask him questions so that he can talk and I can listen. ( I love the sound of his voice before I go to sleep. Its very soothing), but that night I had no questions b/c i was exhausted. So, knowing I like to listen to him ramble, he rambled for a couple minutes and then said," x was telling me all about places to find jewelry today." That perked me up -- he doesn''t like to buy jewelry he prefers to get me stuffed animals or things I need (he bought be a video camera SOOO HAPPY!). So, I responded," why would he tell you that?" To which he answered," Oh, I was asking him last month about where I could find rings in NYC." I answered," Oh really? So, where did he tell you to go?"

He said," Tiffany. He said I''ll get ripped off in Chinatown if I dont know what I''m doing." I laughed and said okay sweetie -- I have my heart set on a Tiffany solitaire.

Two days before that, he said that next month we have to do something very special on the 16th (5 days after my birthday). Then, on Christmas, when i asked him if i was pushing him (my gma and I have been planning a trip to a jewelry store to look at rings) he said no. I''ve already made up my mind and then he asked if I wanted to be surprised or not. i told him a surprise would be nice, but to include my gma and mom in the process if he could because they would feel really honored to help out. He smiled and agreed.

Is it just me, or does it seem like my sweetie has something up his sleeve :)Image

So this suspicious activity isn''t exactly coming from my SO, but his little sister invited me to the Bridal Show here in Toronto this weekend! :) She''s not seriously involved with anyone and if she was just curious about the show she could''ve asked one of her friends. Plus , in the address to line, she wrote "sister in law" in her first language before my email address :)  Hmm does she know something I don''t??
